The San Francisco Giants signed free-agent first baseman Dominic Smith to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin. In a corresponding move, the team designated first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr. for assignment. Smith began the year with the New York Yankees but didn't play in a single game and opted out of his contract to become a free agent. In the Bay Area, the 29-year-old left-handed hitter could see ample at-bats at first base against right-handed pitchers to replace Wade as the Gigantes look for much-needed offensive production. Smith is unlikely to provide much more than Wade did, but he's still worth a look off the waiver wire in NL-only leagues because he could have a big role in the short term. The former first-rounder has a career .246/.313/.403 slash line with 64 home runs and 259 RBI in 693 games played.

Athletics rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson (neck) felt much better on Tuesday after "jarring" his neck on a dive into first base in Monday's game against the Minnesota Twins, and he's expected to return to the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Twins, according to MLB.com. Wilson missed Tuesday's loss due to minor neck stiffness but should be back in action at the 6 on Wednesday, so fantasy managers should be ready to get him back in their starting lineups. The 23-year-old former sixth overall pick in 2023 out of Grand Canyon University is the favorite to win American League Rookie of the Year after thoroughly impressing through his first 228 at-bats and 58 games this year. Wilson enters Wednesday's game with a .355/.393/.504 slash line, seven home runs, 32 RBI and five steals. His .355 average ranks third in all of baseball, behind only Aaron Judge and Freddie Freeman.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Phil Miller reports that Minnesota Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez (lat) is likely to land on the 15-day injured list after suffering a lat strain on the back of his right shoulder during his outing on Tuesday against the Athletics. "It's not the greatest news to hear, to have to deal with, but if there's a silver lining it's that it wasn't that posterior cuff or that I didn't feel anything blowing up," Lopez said. The 29-year-old at least won his fifth game of the year against the A's, but he'll now be out at least the next two weeks and likely longer given the nature of his injury. In the meantime, fantasy managers should keep Lopez stashed after he's gone 5-3 with a 2.82 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 11 starts this year. David Festa and Simeon Woods Richardson are two potential candidates to enter Minnesota's starting rotation with Lopez injured.

The San Francisco Giants designated first baseman/outfielder LaMonte Wade Jr. and catcher Sam Huff for assignment on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Shayna Rubin. Wade gets the boot off the 40-man roster after opening the 2025 season with a .167/.275/.271 slash line with only one home run, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored through 144 at-bats. Because the 31-year-old has a $5 million salary for this year, he'll almost certainly clear waivers and become a free agent, and it shouldn't take him long to find another organization that will pay him. From 2021 to 2024 with the Giants, Wade hit .248/.352/.415 with 51 home runs and 161 RBI in 438 games played. With Wade now out of the picture, the Giants signed veteran Dominic Smith, who could be on the strong side of a platoon at first base to replace Wade.

Houston Astros reliever Josh Hader fired a clean ninth inning in Tuesday's 3-0 road win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The veteran entered the game to protect a three-run lead and made quick work of Pirates' outfielder Bryan Reynolds -- inducing him to line out in three pitches -- before striking out Tommy Pham and Alexander Canario to slam the door. That's back-to-back perfect appearances for Hader, and he hasn't yielded an earned run in his last seven outings. It's another dominant season for him, sporting a pristine 1.38 ERA and 0.73 WHIP across 26 innings with 16 saves and a sterling 39:6 K:BB ratio. He ranks fourth in the league in saves and has a .144 average against him (.155 xBA) while holding the lowest walk rate of his career.

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante allowed seven hits and seven earned runs over 4 1/3 innings, but did not factor into Tuesday's 10-7 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He struck out two and fired 50-of-71 pitches for strikes. The Royals got on the board early against the former fourth-round pick, with a Bobby Witt Jr. two-run blast coming within Pallante's first five pitches of the game. He'd settle in and retire the next 12 batters he faced, but Kansas City got to him again in the fifth when they scored another six runs -- all but one of which was registered to him. It's an outing to forget for the 26-year-old, who now sports an unappealing 4.91 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across his first 12 starts (66 innings). Pallante is one of the best ground-ball pitchers in the league, but he doesn't miss many bats. That makes him prone to outings like this.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen gave up seven hits and seven earned runs in Tuesday's 10-7 win against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cal State Fullerton product completed 2 2/3 innings, walked a batter, and struck out two. Lorenzen made it through two innings, having yielded just two runs on a two-run Nolan Gorman homer, but he fell apart in the third. The veteran was tagged for five more in that inning -- including another two-run dinger -- but Toronto's offense would let him off the hook for the loss. That marks back-to-back abysmal outings for the 33-year-old, in which he's allowed 18 hits and 13 earned runs over 7 2/3 innings of work. The two ugly appearances have raised his ERA (5.12) and WHIP (1.46) considerably from the 3.77 and 1.27 they were at in mid-May. He'll try to rebound later this week on the road against the Chicago White Sox.
From RotoBaller
Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Bowden Francis allowed seven hits and six earned runs over 1 2/3 innings, falling to 2-7 in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. He struck out two, issued two free passes, and hit a batter. It didn't take long for things to go south for the 29-year-old, as he walked Bryson Stott on four pitches to start the game and then yielded back-to-back home runs to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper. All six of the runs against him came in that frame as the Phillies batted around. Another run scored on an error in the second inning after a walk and a single, and that was enough for him to be pulled. Francis hasn't been right since letting up seven earned runs to the Red Sox a month ago, and holds a ghastly 5.84 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in his 12 starts (57 innings). He'll look for better results his next time out against the Twins later this week.

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is on the bench for Wednesday's road matchup with the Cincinnati Reds. It appears to be just a regular day off for the 27-year-old backstop, who's started 12 contests over the last 13 days. Teammate Eric Haase will be behind the dish and bat eighth in his stead. Contreras has ticked his walk rate up this season to a career-high 14.5%, but he's struggled with his bat compared to the last few years. The Venezuelan native's BABIP is unusually low by his standards (.291), and there's also been a decline in his quality of contact after sporting personal-bests in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate in 2024. Maybe his recent back-to-back three-hit efforts are enough to break him out of his funk.
From RotoBaller
The Cincinnati Reds have placed Hunter Greene on the injured list with a right groin strain and signed Wade Miley, Charlie Goldsmith reports. The hard-throwing right-hander was removed from the game on Tuesday, as he felt his groin grab on the final two pitches. This will now be his second trip to the injured list with the same right groin injury. According to Greene, he said, "It's not really concerning, it's frustrating." Greene is having one of his best seasons of his career, making a push to be a Cy Young Award contender with a 2.72 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings pitched, but for now, he will miss his next few starts and target a mid-June return date. In the meantime, fantasy managers will want to stash him on their IL and look elsewhere for production.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco Giants right-hander Landen Roupp (3-4) was excellent on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres, throwing 6 1/3 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed four hits, two walks, and struck out five. He threw 63 of his 93 pitches for strikes, and for the second time this season, recorded an out past the sixth inning. Unfortunately for Roupp, Giants closer Camilo Doval blew the 2-0 lead in the ninth inning, and the Padres went on to win 3-2 in the tenth inning. His season ERA now sits at 3.18, and he is starting to establish himself as a reliable MLB starter. At this point, fantasy managers can continue to deploy Roupp in their starting lineups until he proves otherwise. Roupp would be on regular rest for Sunday's game against Atlanta if Justin Verlander is not activated from the injured list.
From RotoBaller
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zac Gallen (4-7) had a strong outing on Tuesday against the Braves. He went seven innings, allowed three runs (one earned), four hits, one walk, and struck out four. In a moment where the Diamondbacks needed a strong pitching performance after the news of Corbin Burnes, Gallen stepped up and got the job done. It's been a disappointing season for Gallen, as he owns a 5.13 ERA in 73 2/3 innings pitched. However, the 29-year-old does have a 3.44 career ERA and owns a 3.88 xERA in 2025, indicating that some positive regression may be on the horizon. What has been most concerning is his K/9 is down (8.55) and his BB/9 is up (4.03), both of which are career worsts for him. Next up for Gallen is a tough matchup in Cincinnati against the Reds this upcoming Sunday.
From RotoBaller
Chicago White Sox outfielder Michael Taylor was an RBI machine on Tuesday as the White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-1 to win game two of their three-game set. On the evening, Taylor went 1-for-2 with four RBI, two runs scored, two walks, and a home run. The home run was his third of the season, and it came in a significant moment in the sixth inning with two on and two out to extend the White Sox's lead from 1-0 to 4-0. He also stole a base, which was his seventh of the season. Taylor is now slashing .206/.277/.374 on the season, but has picked up a couple of hits in his last few games. For now, Taylor should remain on the waiver wire as he doesn't get consistent playing time and has produced minimal production thus far in 2025.
From RotoBaller
Toronto Blue Jays' outfielder Addison Barger blasted his sixth home run of the season on Tuesday, and the fourth in his last four games. The home run came in the eighth inning, with the Blue Jays down 8-1 in the contest. However, it was a two-run shot, and Barger finished his evening going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored. He has been on a tear the last seven days, slashing .429/.478/1.048 with nine hits, four home runs, eight RBI, and seven runs scored. Fantasy managers looking to stream a hot bat will want to pick up Barger and ride out the streak, but be aware, that in 332 plate appearances at the MLB level, Barger is slashing .226/.283/.410 with 13 home runs, so if he does not stay hot, feel free to drop him. Next up for the Blue Jays is game two of their three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays' young superstar Junior Caminero continues his hot streak at the plate, going 1-for-3 on Tuesday and smashing his 14th home run of the season. The home run came in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Rays in command 4-1. The home run extended the lead to 5-1, which was also the final score in the Rays' victory over the Texas Rangers. Caminero has been unstoppable at the plate in the last seven days, slashing .417/.462/1.167. During that stretch, he has hit five home runs and driven in 14 RBI. He has now seen his season slash line improve to .263/.294/.516. Caminero has been cementing himself as a top 10 third baseman from a fantasy perspective, and will look to keep it going Wednesday, as the Rays continue their series with the Rangers.
From RotoBaller
Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong had a strong performance in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Washington Nationals. Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-3 with a double in the fourth inning, adding two walks, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. The 23-year-old is now slashing .281/.319/.562 in 60 games this season. Crow-Armstrong has settled well into his everyday role and is now tied with Luis Robert for the MLB lead in steals with 21. He also ranks second in WAR at 3.8, trailing only likely MVP candidate Aaron Judge. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with PCA as he looks to continue his strong 2025 campaign in Wednesday's game against the Nationals.
From RotoBaller
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez stayed hot in Tuesday night's 3-2 loss to the New York Yankees. Ramrez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored, notching his sixth multi-hit game in his last seven contests. The 32-year-old is now slashing .330/.386/.553 with a .939 OPS through 57 games, producing at an All-Star level for Cleveland. Since May 1, Ramirez is slashing .394/.455/.651, with six home runs and 10 stolen bases over 28 games. He will look to continue his hot-hitting ways and help keep the Guardians competitive in a tightly contested AL Central.
From RotoBaller
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado was red-hot Tuesday night, going 4-for-4 with a walk in a 3-2 extra-inning win over the Giants. The veteran reached base in all five plate appearances and delivered a clutch, game-tying single in the ninth that drove in two runs. Now in his seventh season with San Diego, Machado is slashing .315/.380/.489 with an .869 OPS and .378 wOBA across 245 plate appearances. His expected batting average (xBA) of .320 is a career-high, ranking in the 98th percentile. He and the Padres will look to keep their three-game win streak going Wednesday in San Francisco.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Ramon Laureano (ankle) is set to begin his rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Norfolk. The 30-year-old has been sidelined since spraining his ankle in a May 20 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers and is targeting a return in early June. His injury came during a rough stretch for the Orioles, who also lost key names like Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring), Cedric Mullins (hamstring), and Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) to the injured list. Before going down, Laureano slashed .266/.320/.532 with six home runs, 11 RBI, and two stolen bases across 103 plate appearances. The Orioles hope his return helps stabilize a lineup missing several key contributors.
From RotoBaller
Seattle Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert (elbow) is scheduled to make his second rehab start Wednesday at Cheney Stadium for Triple-A Tacoma. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of one-run ball in his first outing and is expected to show progress before the Mariners consider activating him from the injured list. The Mariners initially planned for at least two rehab appearances for Gilbert as he works his way back from a Grade 1 flexor strain in his right elbow. If all goes well, the 28-year-old could rejoin the rotation as early as next Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Glbert had made six starts, posting a stellar 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP across 30 1/3 innings this season.
