Hyeseong Kim Tue Jul 29 3:20pm CT

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Tuesday that they placed infielder Hyeseong Kim (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with left-shoulder bursitis and selected the contract of prized infield prospect Alex Freeland from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Kim played in the series opener on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, but it's something that has been bothering him for a while now, so the Dodgers will give him some time to heal up. Although the 26-year-old rookie hasn't seen consistent playing time on a stacked Dodgers roster, he has taken advantage when he's been on the field with a .304/.338/.406 slash line, two home runs, 15 RBI, 17 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 138 at-bats. It's unclear if he'll be ready to return when eligible on Aug. 8. It's unclear how long Freeland will be up, but his power/speed profile could give him short-term fantasy appeal in redraft leagues with Kim, Tommy Edman (ankle) and Max Muncy (knee) all hurt.

Ryan Mountcastle Tue Jul 29 2:20pm CT

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) is eligible to return from the injured list on Wednesday, but MLB.com's Jake Rill writes that he is unlikely to return to the O's until next week's series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which starts on Monday, Aug. 4. Mountcastle has been out for almost two months with a strained right hamstring, so the Orioles would like to see him play in a few more minor-league rehab games. When the 28-year-old does finally return from the IL, he could be splitting first base duties with Coby Mayo if Ryan O'Hearn is sent packing at this week's trade deadline. If O'Hearn isn't traded, it could be more of a struggle for regular playing time for Mountcastle, who was hitting .246 (46-for-187) with only two home runs, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored before his hammy injury. Since hitting a career-high 33 bombs in 21, Mountcastle's power has declined.

Cade Povich Tue Jul 29 2:20pm CT

Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich (hip) will make another minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday night, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. In his last rehab start with the Tides last Thursday, Povich got up to 70 pitches in his fourth start in the minors, so barring a setback with his hip on Tuesday, he figures to make his next start for the Orioles. While there isn't currently room in the five-man starting rotation at the big-league level, there could be after this Thursday's trade deadline if the O's trade one or both of Zach Eflin and Charlie Morton. The 25-year-old southpaw is in his second big-league season in Baltimore and has been inconsistent, going 2-5 with a 5.15 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.50 WHIP while walking 23 and striking out 68 in 64 2/3 innings over 13 outings (12 starts) this year.

Grayson Rodriguez Tue Jul 29 2:00pm CT

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Grayson Rodriguez (elbow) is getting multiple opinions on his injured right elbow, but there are no further updates, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Rodriguez hasn't pitched at all in 2024 due to elbow and lat injuries. The Orioles are doing their due diligence on the 25-year-old, but the longer he goes without throwing, the less likely it is that he'll return to help Baltimore and fantasy managers down the stretch, especially with the team not in the hunt for a playoff spot. In a best-case scenario, Rodriguez probably wouldn't be able to join the big-league rotation for his season debut until late August or even early September. Left-hander Trevor Rogers has been the primary beneficiary in the O's rotation this year with Rodriguez sidelined and has had a nice bounce-back campaign after struggling upon his arrival to Baltimore after a trade from the Marlins last year.

Eugenio Suarez Tue Jul 29 1:40pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger) is not in the team's starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the hosting Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Although X-rays came back negative on Suarez's right index finger after he was hit by a pitch in Monday's loss to Detroit, it's not that big of a surprise that the D-backs are playing it safe with one of the top available bats at this year's trade deadline. Fantasy managers should consider the 34-year-old right-handed slugger to be day-to-day and check back to see if he's available to play on Wednesday. It would not be a big surprise if we don't see Suarez back in the lineup until the July 31 trade deadline on Thursday, though. Blaze Alexander is starting at third and batting ninth on Tuesday against Tigers right-hander Casey Mize. Alexander could be the team's everyday third baseman if/when Suarez is traded this week.

Brenton Doyle Tue Jul 29 1:30pm CT

Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (shoulder) returned to the lineup for the series opener on Monday in Cleveland against the Guardians after missing four games with a sore right shoulder, according to MLB.com's Thomas Harding. Doyle suffered the injury making a diving catch last Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals and then aggravated the injury on a slide into home plate later in the game. The 27-year-old has hit just .216 with seven homers and 31 RBI in a disappointing season, and his shoulder injury came in the midst of one of his most productive stretches -- he went 8-for-17 (.471) during a five-game stretch. Fantasy managers have been left wondering what has happened after Doyle hit .260/.317/.446 with 23 homers, 30 steals and 72 RBI in a breakout 2024 campaign. A quad injury early in the year and time on the bereavement list stalled what had been a hot start.

Aaron Judge Tue Jul 29 1:20pm CT

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (elbow) will start hitting off a tee on Tuesday or Wednesday but will need 10 to 15 days to start throwing, manager Aaron Boone said on Talkin' Yanks. The Yankees placed Judge on the 10-day injured list on Sunday with a right flexor strain in his elbow and then received a platelet-rich plasma injection. It's possible that he will come off the IL when he's eligible next Tuesday, but expect the Yankees to ease the reigning American League MVP back in the designated hitter role. It's why the Yankees have said Giancarlo Stanton could see time in the outfield when Judge is back. With Judge out, Cody Bellinger will likely see most of the playing time in right field, giving Trent Grisham more run in center field. Obviously, Judge should be stashed in an IL spot in all fantasy formats. He's having another monster season with 37 homers, 85 RBI, 90 runs, six steals and .342 average.

Luis Gil Tue Jul 29 1:20pm CT

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told Talkin' Yankees that right-hander Luis Gil (lat) is expected to throw 75 pitches in his minor-league rehab start on Tuesday, and if all goes well, he'll be lined up to make his first major-league start on Sunday in Miami against the Marlins. Tuesday will be Gil's fourth rehab start, and potentially his last if everything goes well. The 27-year-old should be picked up in fantasy leagues if he's floating around the waiver wire after winning the American League Rookie of the Year award in 2024. He has been out all season in 2025 due to a strained right lat and has posted a 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 17 strikeouts and six walks in 10 innings in his three rehab starts with Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. While Gil can help down the stretch, fantasy managers also shouldn't expect him to be as good as he was in 2024.

George Springer Tue Jul 29 11:20am CT

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (head) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Tuesday against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Davis Schneider is serving as the designated hitter and will bat second against Orioles right-hander Charlie Morton. Springer was hit in the head by a pitch in Monday's series opener and was pulled from the game. It's unclear if the 35-year-old is in the league's concussion protocol or if he'll be available for the second game of the double dip, so fantasy managers will need to check back for an update soon. Toronto can ill-afford to lose Springer for an extended period of time, as he's been one of their best spark plugs on offense in a resurgent 2025 season, slashing .291/.383/.506 with an .889 OPS, 18 home runs, 57 RBI, 66 runs and 12 stolen bases in 344 at-bats.

    From RotoBaller

Easton Lucas Tue Jul 29 11:20am CT

Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Easton Lucas has been called up from Triple-A Buffalo to make the start on Tuesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. This will be Lucas' fifth start for the Blue Jays and his first appearance in the big leagues since late May. The 28-year-old southpaw has allowed 14 earned runs on 21 hits (five homers) while walking 10 and striking out 22 in 21 2/3 innings over five outings (four starts). Lucas also has an ERA over 5.00 at Buffalo and will be pitching on Tuesday on just three days of rest, so we would advise fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for a streamer to avoid him. After Lucas makes the spot start for Toronto against the O's, he'll most likely head back to the minors.

Dalton Rushing Tue Jul 29 10:00am CT

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says he hasn't spoken to Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing about trade speculation and doesn't "see a world in which he's moved anyway." The 24-year-old top prospect would seem to be a logical trade candidate as he's blocked off from regular playing time by star backstop Will Smith in Los Angeles, but it doesn't appear that the team is moving in that direction. Rushing has served as Smith's primary backup for much of 2025, slashing .200/.270/.275 with one home run and 11 RBI in 89 plate appearances. He's also logged four games at first base, so there's a possibility he could move out from behind the plate in future seasons. Rushing has struck out at an unsustainably high 40.4% rate so far this season, but he only struck out 20.5% of the time in 503 minor league plate appearances in 2024. He would be an intriguing high-upside player in fantasy if he had a path to regular playing time, but it doesn't look like that will happen in 2025.

    From RotoBaller

DJ LeMahieu Tue Jul 29 9:50am CT

Free-agent infielder DJ LeMahieu plans to sign with a new team following the trade deadline, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Rosenthal writes that LeMahieu wants to have a chance to see each team's roster post-deadline so his spot won't be put in jeopardy by a potential acquisition. The 37-year-old played in 45 games for the New York Yankees this season before being released earlier this month. In 142 plate appearances, LeMahieu slashed .266/.338/.336 with two home runs, 12 RBI, and 13 runs scored. He appeared exclusively at second base for the Yankees this year, but LeMahieu has also played both corner infield spots in previous seasons. He's no longer any sort of power threat at this point in his career, but LeMahieu's 51.7% hard-hit rate this season is the highest of his career, albeit in a small sample size. Depending on where he signs and what his role looks like, LeMahieu could have some deep-league appeal as a cheap source of batting average.

Ryan Ritter Tue Jul 29 9:50am CT

Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan Ritter (finger) has had two of three stitches removed from his lacerated right middle finger, and swelling has decreased around the injury. Ritter landed on the 10-day injured list as a result of the finger ailment on July 20. In 113 plate appearances this season, the 24-year-old is hitting .238/.291/.347 with one home run, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored, and one stolen base. He's struggled to hit for power (1.4% barrel rate) while also whiffing too often (31% strikeout rate), an uninspiring combination. The Rockies have already traded away one infielder in third baseman Ryan McMahon, and could do the same with veteran middle infielders Thairo Estrada and Orlando Arcia, so there could be playing time available for Ritter upon his return.

Dylan Cease Tue Jul 29 9:30am CT

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Cease (head) will undergo a CT scan after being hit in the back of the head by a comebacker during his team's 7-6 win over the New York Mets on Monday night. Cease stayed in the game after the incident, which occurred in the third inning. This head injury is the latest setback in what has been a frustrating year for the 29-year-old. In 118 2/3 innings (22 starts), Cease is 3-10 with a 4.79 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 153 strikeouts. His 29.9% strikeout rate remains elite, but Cease is allowing the highest barrel rate (10.7%) of his career, and his 1.29 HR/9 is his highest since 2020. The results of this CT scan will likely determine whether he misses his next start, which had been scheduled to be on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

German Marquez Tue Jul 29 9:30am CT

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez (biceps) played catch at 105 feet on Monday, but there is no timetable for his return, according to MLB.com. Marquez was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 23 (retroactive to July 21) due to right biceps tendinitis. The 30-year-old has thrown 98 1/3 innings (20 starts) this season, recording a 3-11 record with a 5.67 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts. It's a good sign that Marquez has resumed throwing so soon after the injury, but there's no reason for the last-place Rockies to rush him back. Regardless, Marquez has not pitched well enough this year to be viable in fantasy. Right-hander Tanner Gordon has taken his place in the Colorado rotation since Marquez went down.

Robert Suarez Tue Jul 29 9:20am CT

San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez recorded his fourth blown save of the season on Monday night, allowing a solo home run to New York Mets infielder Ronny Mauricio that tied the score in the ninth inning. Luckily for both Suarez and the Padres, San Diego scored in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 7-6 in walk-off fashion, allowing Suarez to pick up his third win of 2025. For the season, Suarez has thrown 43 2/3 innings with a 3.50 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 46 strikeouts, and 30 saves. His 26.6% strikeout rate is his highest since the 2022 season. Suarez has been the undisputed closer in San Diego for each of the last two seasons and still has strong numbers overall, so this blown save is unlikely to knock him out of the ninth inning.

Carson Whisenhunt Tue Jul 29 9:20am CT

San Francisco Giants left-hander Carson Whisenhunt struggled early in his major league debut Monday against a weak Pittsburgh Pirates lineup. The Giants' top pitching prospect completed five innings, allowing four earned runs while striking out three. Command was an issue, as Whisenhunt threw just 49 of 85 pitches for strikes, walking two and allowing five hits. He struggled in the first two innings but settled in by the third, tossing three scoreless frames to finish his outing. Despite his effort, the Giants dropped the game 6-5. Whisenhunt will likely face much tougher competition in his next start against the New York Mets.

Joe Ross Tue Jul 29 9:10am CT

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Joe Ross (back) threw a bullpen session on July 28 in Chicago, and "He's feeling really good," manager Rob Thomson said. The Phillies signed the 32-year-old Ross to a one-year, $4 million contract in the offseason, and he has appeared in 31 games for the team this year with a 5.28 ERA, 5.12 FIP, and 1.51 WHIP in his 44 1/3 innings, working primarily out of the bullpen. He has been sidelined since July 20 with back spasms, but he could return relatively soon, giving the team another depth option out of the bullpen.

Brandon Lowe Tue Jul 29 8:50am CT

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe (ankle/foot) is on track to return on the first day that he's eligible to be reinstated from the injured list, which is Wednesday, when the Rays take on the Yankees in New York. Lowe was placed on the injured list due to Left ankle/foot tendinitis after initially the injury was referred to as plantar fasciitis, and Lowe was planning to play through it. Even if he's at less than 100%, he is apparently ready enough to return to action. He has been very productive when available this season, hitting .269 with 19 homers, 50 RBI, and a .344 wOBA in 86 games. He has hit exactly 21 homers in each of the last two years and should be able to exceed that number if he can stay healthy and in the lineup the rest of the way for Tampa Bay. The Rays start Tuesday's action nine games back of the Blue Jays in the AL East and 2.5 games behind the Red Sox for the third and final Wild Card spot. Getting Lowe back in their lineup will give their playoff chances a boost.

    From RotoBaller

    Ryan O'Hearn Tue Jul 29 8:40am CT

Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Ryan O'Hearn has cooled off after his red-hot start to the season, but he's still one of the top bats available headed into the MLB Trade Deadline. According to The New York Times' Ken Rosenthal, the Brewers are among the teams interested in adding O'Hearn, who is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season. O'Hearn is hitting .284 with 12 homers and a .360 wOBA on the year, but since June 1, he's hitting just .222 with three homers and a .292 wOBA. He still brings some left-handed pop, though, and the Brewers could use some extra power potential in their order. He would likely get playing time at first base, left field, and designated hitter for the Brew Crew, although they do have other options that also would deserve playing time in those spots.
