Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani made his first appearance on the mound for the Dodgers on Monday night in Los Angeles, and he also delivered two hits and two RBI as the leadoff hitter in the team's 6-3 victory. He gave up two hits and one run in a 28-pitch first inning. He settled down after back-to-back singles and a sacrifice fly to get out of the inning, but did not have any strikeouts. At the plate, he doubled to drive in a run in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1 and added an RBI single in the fourth inning to finish 2-for-4 with two RBI and a walk. Ohtani is hitting an even .300 with 25 homers, 11 stolen bases, and 43 RBI in his 71 games this season. He'll continue to progress in his throwing program to be able to go deeper into games, while also remaining a key part of the Dodgers' potent lineup. The two-way superstar is officially back to both pitching and hitting, and it will be exciting to watch the many ways he contributes to the Dodgers as they chase the NL West pennant and ultimately try to defend their World Series title.

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott (elbow) may get at least Tuesday off after hyperextending his elbow on a swing on Monday, according to manager Rob Thomson. Stott was able to finish the game, but will undergo further evaluation to see if he needs some downtime to recover. The team will be cautious with the 27-year-old lefty to avoid the issue getting worse. Stott has struggled his season and is batting just .236 with four homers, a .283 wOBA, and only a 26.9% hard-hit rate. Now that he's also battling an injury, fantasy managers in standard-sized leagues may want to consider alternatives from the waiver wire. Stott has good power and speed potential, but hasn't been able to live up to it yet this season.
From RotoBaller
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The fantasy stalwart also drove in a run on a sac fly. Machado has been on a tear over his last 13 games, batting a red-hot .370 (20-for-54) with two doubles, four long balls, 18 RBI, eight runs scored, and one steal. It's a strong start to the season for him, and the underlying metrics back it up. The 32-year-old's .316 xBA matches his actual batting average, and he's sporting his highest average exit velocity (92.6 MPH) and hard-hit rate (52.1%) marks since 2021. It isn't a stretch to think he could challenge his career-bests in runs scored (100) and RBI (107).
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jake Mangum went 3-for-4 with three RBI in Monday's 7-1 win against the Baltimore Orioles. He doubled, singled twice, and scored a run. That marks a seven-game on-base streak for the 29-year-old, who has shown well in his first taste of big-league action. Over the stretch, he's a stellar 12-for-27 (.444) with two doubles, eight RBI, and five runs scored. Overall, he's slashing a respectable .315/.360/.386 through his first 37 professional games, and has been a catalyst for Tampa Bay. Mangum doesn't offer much in the power department, but he has a high batting floor and should chip in a fair amount of steals with a sprint speed just outside the top 15% in the league.
From RotoBaller
Washington Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan blew his fifth save of the season and took the loss in Monday's 6-4 game against the Rockies. Finnegan came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one. He instantly blew the save on a game-tying home run. He got the first out on a fly-out, allowed a single, got the second out on a pop-out, allowed a go-ahead two-run HR, and got the final out on a groundout. It wasn't the 33-year-old's finest outing, but he has pitched well overall this season with 18 saves, a 3.12 ERA, a 1.31 WHIP, and a 7.27 K/9 rate in 26 innings of work. He currently has high job security, which makes him a fine fantasy option in at least all roto leagues.
From RotoBaller
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito turned in another strong start in Monday's 2-0 win over the Mariners. Giolito pitched six innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with a season-high 10 strikeouts. The 30-year-old has either pitched very well or very poorly this season, culminating in a 3-1 record with a 4.73 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and an 8.08 K/9 rate in nine starts and 45 2/3 IP. His next start will be in a favorable venue but against a strong lineup at the Giants. Giolito's propensity for implosion makes him a dangerous start in roto leagues, but he could be a potential start candidate for fantasy managers who don't mind taking risks in points leagues.
From RotoBaller
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitching rookie Mick Abel picked up the second win of his career in Monday's 5-2 win over the Marlins. Abel pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. The 23-year-old has turned in encouraging results in his first four starts, going 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and a 7.52 K/9 rate in 20 1/3 IP. His strikeout numbers have not yet reflected the ceiling he showed in the minors, but fantasy managers can't complain about his ERA and WHIP so far. His next matchup will be a tough matchup against the Mets. While he has looked good overall, Abel had a harder time in his last tough matchup against the Cubs. As such, fantasy managers may consider sitting him.
From RotoBaller
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Logan Gilbert (elbow) did not miss a beat in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Red Sox. Gilbert, who had been on the injured list since late April due to a right elbow flexor strain, pitched five innings, allowing two runs on three hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with 10 strikeouts. While he came away with the loss, this was a highly encouraging start for fantasy managers and the Mariners, who have dealt with numerous rotation injuries. The 28-year-old is now 1-2 with a 2.55 ERA, a 0.79 WHIP, and a 13.75 K/9 rate in seven starts and 35 1/3 IP. His next scheduled start will be a tough one at the Cubs, but fantasy managers will likely feel more confident throwing their ace out there after his stellar return performance.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Josh Lowe went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-1 win against the visiting Baltimore Orioles. Lowe scored twice, drew a walk, and notched a sacrifice bunt. The Virginia native blasted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning off the Orioles' Zack Eflin -- his fourth of the season -- to give the Rays a 1-0 lead, and they never looked back. Lowe's .241/.317/.407 triple slash isn't that of your typical leadoff man. However, the Rays run him out there more often than not. Furthermore, he's underperforming his .282 xBA by a good margin (.241). That also shows up in his career-low .286 BABIP -- over 50 points lower than he sported in 2024 (.338).
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt pitched well but came away with a no-decision in Monday's 1-0 extra-inning loss to the Angels. Schmidt pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing four hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Unfortunately, the Yankees were unable to provide any support, and the game wasn't decided until the 11th inning. The 29-year-old has pitched well once again this season, going 3-3 with a 3.16 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, and an 8.62 K/9 rate in 11 starts and 62 2/3 IP. Monday was his longest start of the season, and over half of his starts have been quality starts. His next scheduled start will be a middling matchup against the Orioles. Schmidt's solid performance this season makes him worth a start for fantasy managers.
From RotoBaller
Colorado Rockies outfielder Mickey Moniak went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 6-4 road win against the Washington Nationals. He also tripled and scored twice. Moniak's eighth home run of the season came off Nationals' pitcher Kyle Finnegan, and it was a clutch one. The 27-year-old stepped up to bat in the top of the ninth with a runner on after teammate Hunter Goodman smashed a solo shot a few batters earlier to knot up the score at 4-4. Moniak was down in the count when he yanked a painted Finnegan fastball over the right-field wall. It's his third homer in his last six appearances, and he's also notched four two-hit outings in that span.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano turned in his second consecutive seven-inning start in Monday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Yankees. Soriano did well against a tough lineup, allowing six hits and a walk with six strikeouts. The 26-year-old is now 4-5 with a 3.54 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP, a 7.30 K/9 rate, and a 4.17 BB/9 rate in 15 starts and 86 1/3 IP. Over half of his starts have been quality starts, but Soriano has been limited at times due to walk issues. His next scheduled start will be a sneakily favorable matchup against an Astros lineup that has slumped lately. This may present an opportunity for Soriano to extend his seven-inning start stretch to three.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Zach Eflin did not fare well against his former team in Monday's 7-1 loss to the Rays. Eflin pitched five innings, allowing seven runs on 12 hits (including two home runs) and two walks with two strikeouts. The 31-year-old has had an erratic season and is now 6-3 with a 4.81 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and a 5.90 K/9 rate in 10 starts and 58 IP. On the positive side, his low K/9 rate appears to be due to some bad luck, as his swinging-strike rate is not out of line with his career average. Eflin will face a tough matchup in his next start at the Yankees. While he has shown solid skills at times this season, his unpredictability and the matchup make Eflin a sit candidate.
From RotoBaller
Washington Nationals right-handed reliever Derek Law (forearm) threw a simulated game on Monday and will rejoin the team later this week if he recovers well, according to The Washington Post's Andrew Golden. If Law feels good on Tuesday, he could be cleared to start a minor-league rehab assignment later this week as he recovers from a strained right forearm. The 34-year-old veteran hurler has been out all season, so he'll likely have a lengthy rehab assignment down on the farm. His career-high workload in 2024 of 90 relief innings took a toll on him in his eighth year in the big leagues and first with Washington a year ago. In his 75 outings out of the bullpen, Law had a sharp 2.60 ERA (3.32 FIP), a 1.18 WHIP, one save, a career-high 76 K's and 24 walks. He also had 17 holds. When Law returns, he could return to a key late-inning, high-leverage role by season's end.
From RotoBaller
Houston Astros right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (thumb), who was transferred to the 60-day injured list over the weekend, is going through a flat-ground throwing progression and will report to the team's facility in Florida later this week, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. Arrighetti has been out of action since breaking his right thumb when he was hit by a ball during batting practice in early April. If the 25-year-old continues to make progress as he ramps up his throwing program, it's possible that he will return to the major-league starting rotation in early July. Because of how much time he's missed now, Arrighetti will most likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the IL. The former sixth-rounder should have a spot in the rotation waiting for him when he's ready despite posting a 5.59 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in his first two starts of 2025.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Tigers infield prospect Kevin McGonigle went 1-for-5 with a walk, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored for High-A West Michigan on Sunday. It marked the fourth straight game with an extra-base hit for the Tigers' second-ranked prospect (MLB No. 23), and continued a torrid stretch of hitting. The 20-year-old missed over a month earlier this season due to an ankle injury, logging only 20 games for High-A West Michigan, but what a 20 games it has been. The left-handed slugger is hitting .415 (34-for-82) with an otherworldly .505 OBP thanks to an elite 15.5 percent walk rate (12.4 percent strikeout rate). His 1.212 OPS would be the best at any level of the minors were he qualified. A promotion to Double-A must be on the horizon, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get some at-bats at Triple-A before the season is out.
From RotoBaller
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that right-hander Mason Thompson (elbow) will start a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday with Double-A Harrisburg. Thompson pitched in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Saturday but will officially begin his rehab assignment this week as he continues his lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery in March of 202. Barring a setback in the minors, it's possible that the 27-year-old will be ready to return to the Nats' bullpen early in the second half of the season. In 2022 and 2023 in D.C., Thompson posted a 4.69 ERA (4.07 FIP) with a 1.42 WHIP, two saves, 59 strikeouts and 31 walks in 78 2/3 innings over 75 outings in relief. The former third-rounder by the San Diego Padres will remain off the fantasy radar whenever he makes his 2025 season debut.
From RotoBaller
Tampa Bay Rays shortstop prospect Carson Williams smacked a three-run home run on Sunday at Triple-A Durham in a 1-for-4 night at the plate. Unfortunately, the other three plate appearances resulted in a strikeout, wrapping up another tough week for the Rays' top-ranked prospect after going 3-for-19 (.158) over six games. The 21-year-old is now slashing .158/.273/.316 in 2025, with 10 home runs but a 34.8 percent strikeout rate and a 17.1 swinging-strike rate. While the former first-rounder makes loud contact when he puts the bat on the ball, one would figure his ability to do just that would only get harder at the big league level. The 6-foot-2 slugger was expected to make a debut for the Rays this season, but he's going to need to turn it around soon for that timeline to hold true.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Royals right-hander Kyle Wright (shoulder) made his fifth minor-league rehab start on Sunday with Triple-A Omaha and allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings with a walk and six strikeouts, per MLB.com. Wright threw 41 of his 65 total pitches for strikes as he works his way back from right-shoulder surgery that has kept him out for all of 2025 to this point. The 29-year-old is expected to make just one more rehab start before his 30-day window closes on June 24. The former first-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2017 out of Vanderbilt won a league-high 21 games with the Braves in 2022 but has appeared in just nine games since then due to injuries and didn't appear at all in 2024. That was the only season he's really been effective in the big leagues, so fantasy managers will be waiting to see more in mixed leagues when Wright returns.
From RotoBaller
Cincinnati Reds third base prospect Cam Collier is headed to Double-A Chattanooga. The 20-year-old injured his thumb in the preseason, which kept him out of action until June 4. Since then, the Reds' fourth-ranked prospect (MLB No. 71) has gone on to hit .293 (12-for-41) with two doubles and a home run over 11 games for High-A Dayton. The left-handed slugger spent all of 2024 at High-A, hitting .248 with 20 home runs as a 19-year-old, and likely would have started at Double-A this season if not for the thumb injury. The former first-round draft pick could be in line for a debut in the majors next season, so dynasty managers keep tabs on how he fares over the next couple of months.
