Juan Brito Mon Jun 9 7:30pm CT

Cleveland Guardians infield prospect Juan Brito (thumb) is tracking toward playing in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League this week as he works his way back from surgery on his right thumb back in late April to fix a torn ligament, according to MLB.com's Tim Stebbins. Brito, the team's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was hitting .291/.406/.491 with an .897 OPS, two home runs, 10 RBI, 11 runs scored and four stolen bases in 16 games with Triple-A Columbus before landing on the seven-day minor-league injured list. The 23-year-old Dominican switch-hitter is nearing a return to minor-league action and could be a candidate to make his major-league debut later this season if he continues to hit the ball well upon his return. Brito never showed much power until last year, when he hit 21 bombs in 144 games. Fantasy-wise, Brito won't have a very high ceiling with fringy speed and questionable power at second base.

Trevor Stephan Mon Jun 9 7:20pm CT

MLB.com's Tim Stebbins reports that Cleveland Guardians right-hander Trevor Stephan (elbow) will start a minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Stephen is attempting to return from Tommy John surgery that kept him out of action for the entire 2024 season. Because of how long he's been out, the 29-year-old should require a lengthy rehab assignment and probably won't be an option at the big-league level until after the mid-July All-Star break. When he's finally ready to return, Stephen will join Cleveland's bullpen and won't have any fantasy value in most leagues. He went 7-7 in 2023 with a 4.06 ERA (3.56 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, two saves, 75 strikeouts and 26 walks in 71 relief appearances in 2023, one season after posting a career-low 2.69 ERA with three saves in 63 2/3 innings.

Michael King Mon Jun 9 7:10pm CT

San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King (shoulder) is continuing to rest and gather information about his shoulder injury, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports. "We're just in a holding pattern to see what it is and the best way to treat it, if there is a better way to treat it outside of just the rest," manager Mike Shildt said. The Padres have been without King since inflammation forced him to the 15-day injured list on May 25 (retroactive to May 22). The loss of King has been significant for the Padres and fantasy managers alike. He stormed out of the gates this year with a 2.59 ERA and 64 strikeouts against 17 walks in 55 2/3 innings before going on the shelf. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear his return is imminent.

Andrew Walters Mon Jun 9 7:10pm CT

Cleveland Guardians right-handed pitching prospect Andrew Walters (lat) underwent surgery on his right lat on Monday, according to MLB.com's Tim Stebbins. It's a pretty significant surgery, so Walters should be expected to miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Depending on how his recovery goes this winter, there's a chance he might not be ready for spring training or the 2026 season, either. The club's No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, was moved to the 60-day injured list recently and had been out since late May. The 24-year-old former second-rounder in 2023 out of Miami made two appearances out of the bullpen for the Guards this year and surrendered two earned runs while walking none and striking out two in just 1 1/3 innings. Walters features a mid-to-high-90s heater with a plus slider and has the making of a future closer at the big-league level if he can improve his command.

Garrett Mitchell Mon Jun 9 7:00pm CT

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (oblique) has resumed baseball activities, according to the team. The Brewers have gone about a month and a half without Mitchell, who went on the 10-day injured list on April 26 with a left oblique strain. If all goes well during his rehab, he could return to the majors in late June. The 26-year-old hit a productive .255/.342/.469 with six home runs in 11 steals over a 69-game, 224-plate appearance span in 2024. However, Mitchell slumped to a .206/.286/.294 mark with no homers in 25 games and 78 trips to the plate before suffering the injury this year. Mitchell opened the season as the Brewers' primary center fielder, but Jackson Chourio has shifted from left field to take his place.

Will Brennan Mon Jun 9 6:50pm CT

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Will Brennan (elbow) underwent a full repair of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow on Monday, per Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Recovery takes six to eight months, meaning Brennan will miss the rest of the season. The 27-year-old appeared in just six of the Guardians' games this season and went 1-for-11. Brennan did accrue plenty of playing time from 2023-24, a 252-game span in which he batted .265/.303/.370 with 13 home runs, 71 RBI, and 17 stolen bases in 808 trips to the plate.

Jordan Walker Mon Jun 9 6:40pm CT

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker (wrist) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday, manager Oli Marmol announced. The Cardinals haven't determined a location yet. Walker landed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation May 31 (retroactive to May 29), continuing a brutal start to the season for the former top prospect. He hit an ugly .215/.273/.310 with three home runs, 23 RBI, and a career-worst 33.1% strikeout rate in 172 plate appearances before going on the shelf. However, the 23-year-old did raise his OPS from .498 to .583 between May 14 and his latest appearance on May 28. The Cardinals have recently given the lion's share of playing time in right field to Alec Burleson, who's hitting a solid .296/.341/.426 with five HRs and 20 RBI in 182 plate appearances.

Tanner Houck Mon Jun 9 6:20pm CT

Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck (elbow) threw a bullpen session Saturday and will throw another one sometime this week, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Houck has been out since the Red Sox placed him on the 15-day injured list on May 15 with a flexor pronator strain. He was shut down from throwing earlier in his recovery. The injury could help explain some of Houck's early season struggles. After posting a 3.12 ERA in 178 2/3 innings a year ago, Houck owns a bloated 8.04 mark over 43 2/3 frames this season. The 28-year-old also saw his strikeout, walk, and ground-ball rates go in the wrong direction before he went on the IL.

Kendall Graveman Mon Jun 9 6:20pm CT

The Diamondbacks announced that they have placed right-hander Kendall Graveman (hip) on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 8, with a right hip impingement. The team recalled righty Christian Montes De Oca from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. While Graveman began the season on the IL with back problems, he made his season debut a few weeks ago and pitched well in eight appearances from May 13 to June 5. The 34-year-old allowed just two earned runs in that span, but the wheels came off Saturday in a 13-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds. Graveman coughed up six earned runs on five hits and walked two during an inning of work. As a result, his ERA shot to 8.64 over 8 1/3 frames. He has also surrendered 14 hits and recorded more walks (five) than strikeouts (three).

Shohei Ohtani Mon Jun 9 6:00pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani (foot) is in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the San Diego Padres. Ohtani appears to be fine after getting hit in the foot by a pitch on Sunday. It didn't appear to be a significant issue, but also wouldn't be shocking to see the Dodgers rest their superstar after something like that. Ohtani will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff against right-hander Nick Pivetta on Monday. Fantasy managers should make sure to have Ohtani in their lineups.

    From RotoBaller

Jorge Soler Mon Jun 9 5:50pm CT

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jorge Soler (groin) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the A's. Soler aggravated his groin issue over the weekend and as a result he'll sit out his second straight game on Monday. The Angels are hopeful Soler is able to avoid a trip to the injured list. It is worth noting that Angels acquired LaMonte Wade, so placing Soler on the injured list would free up a spot for Soler on the roster. In the meantime, Chris Taylor will cover right field and bat sixth versus right-hander Grant Holman on Monday.

    From RotoBaller

Michael Conforto Mon Jun 9 5:40pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Michael Conforto is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the San Diego Padres. This appears to be a routine rest day for Conforto, but a bit odd to see it happening against a right-handed starter. The Dodgers have been platooning Conforto in left field this season. In his absence, Andy Pages will cover left field and bat seventh versus right-hander Nick Pivetta. Conforto hasn't done enough with the bat this season to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Gabriel Moreno Mon Jun 9 5:30pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. This marks the third game in a row that Moreno will sit out after being hit in the hand during Friday's game. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so Moreno appears to have avoided a major injury. This appears to be a day-to-day issue, so hopefully Moreno is back soon. In the meantime, Jose Herrera will cover behind the plate and bat ninth versus right-hander Emerson Hancock on Monday.

    From RotoBaller

Nick Kurtz Mon Jun 9 5:20pm CT

Athletics rookie first baseman Nick Kurtz (hip) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Kurtz is back in the mix after being sidelined since late May due to a hip flexor strain. The rookie first baseman needed only one rehab appearance before rejoining the A's roster. He'll serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth against Yusei Kikuchi on Monday. Fantasy managers who have Kurtz rostered should make sure to get him in their lineups ahead of first pitch.

    From RotoBaller

Ryan Weathers Mon Jun 9 5:20pm CT

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Ryan Weathers (lat) has been placed on the 60-day injured list on Monday. Weathers was pulled from his most recent start on Saturday after reportedly dealing with discomfort. The Marlins had Weathers undergo further testing, which revealed a lat strain. This looks like it's going to be a lengthy absence with Weathers being placed on the 60-day injured list. It's tough for fantasy managers to warrant holding Weathers through this injury. The Marlins haven't said who is going to take the vacant spot in the starting rotation.

    From RotoBaller

Max Scherzer Mon Jun 9 5:00pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb) is feeling good and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday or Wednesday, tentatively followed by a 60-65-pitch minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith. Scherzer will likely need two or more rehab starts on the farm before potentially rejoining the Blue Jays' starting rotation. The future Hall of Famer threw a 50-pitch, three-inning simulated game on Sunday while using all of his pitches, according to manager John Schneider. Inflammation in his troublesome right thumb has limited the 40-year-old veteran to just one start all year in his first season with Toronto. Scherzer should immediately rejoin the rotation when he's ready, but fantasy managers definitely should temper expectations for the aging former ace.

    From RotoBaller

Leody Taveras Mon Jun 9 4:30pm CT

The Seattle Mariners announced on Monday that they designated outfielder Leody Taveras for assignment and recalled outfielder Dominic Canzone from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Taveras began the season with the Texas Rangers and hit .241 (19-for-79) with a homer, eight RBI and six steals before being cut and scooped off waivers by the Mariners. The 26-year-old only made it 28 games with Seattle, going 16-for-92 (.174) with two homers, nine RBI and three stolen bases. Taveras had double-digit home runs the previous two seasons with Texas and had a career-high 23 stolen bases last year, but he'll now be searching for his third organization of the season unless he clears waivers and accepts an outright assignment to Tacoma. With Luke Raley (oblique) on the injured list, the lefty-hitting Canzone could see action in right field against right-handers in Seattle going forward.

Ryan Weathers Mon Jun 9 4:30pm CT

Miami Marlins left-hander Ryan Weathers (shoulder) is back in Miami to be evaluated for shoulder discomfort, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Weathers had a rough start on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, as he showed diminished velocity and then was hit in the head by catcher Nick Fortes between innings. His head is fine, but the Marlins are worried about his shoulder after he was seen flexing his arm during his outing over the weekend. The 25-year-old southpaw started the year on the injured list with a forearm injury, which is why he's been limited to only five starts. In his five starts, Weathers has a strong 3.28 ERA (4.40 FIP) and 1.05 WHIP with 23 strikeouts and eight walks in 24 2/3 innings pitched. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day, but his next start is firmly in jeopardy, and he could be in danger of going on the IL for the second time in 2025.

    From RotoBaller

Wilyer Abreu Mon Jun 9 4:20pm CT

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (side) is going on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a side injury, according to manager Alex Cora. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox called up top outfielder prospect Roman Anthony from Triple-A Worcester. It explains why he's out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays for only the second time this year against a right-handed pitcher. With Abreu on the shelf and Anthony starting in center field on Monday, Ceddanne Rafaela will make his first career start in right field. Th 25-year-old Abreu is already just two home runs shy of tying his career-high in homers that he set last year, but he had just two hits in 14 at-bats with eight strikeouts in seven games in June before getting hurt. When he returns, the logjam in Boston's crowded outfield could mean fewer playing time for Abreu.
