Adam Mazur Tue Jun 17 8:00pm CT

The Miami Marlins have recalled right-handed pitching prospect Adam Mazur from Triple-A Jacksonville in order to make a potential spot start during the team's current homestand, according to Sports Grid's Craig Mish. Mazur, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is most likely to make the start on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, although nothing is official. The 24-year-old former second-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2022 out of Iowa has gone 3-4 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and 16 walks in 59 2/3 innings over his 12 outings (11 starts) for Jacksonville this year. If Mazur handles himself well in his big-league debut for the Fish, he could be in line for more starts before the All-Star break. Mazur had a rough big-league debut with SD last year, but he has some of the best command and control among pitching prospects.

Yimi Garcia Tue Jun 17 7:20pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) threw a bullpen session in Florida on Monday and is scheduled for a live batting practice session on Thursday, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. Garcia will face live hitters this week after initially resuming a throwing program on June 6 as he works his way back from a right-shoulder impingement that landed him on the 15-day injured list on May 24. When he returns, the 34-year-old Dominican veteran will settle back into a high-leverage setup role at the back end of Toronto's bullpen while also seeing the occasional save chance. Before his shoulder injury, Garcia had a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with three saves, 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 relief innings in his return to Canada. Garcia has 29 career saves in 11 big-league seasons and will be valuable in holds leagues.

Daulton Varsho Tue Jun 17 7:20pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) is currently at the team's spring training complex in Florida and is working through a running progression, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. The hope is that Varsho will run the bases on Thursday or Friday and be close to coming off the 10-day injured list after that. The 28-year-old has been hitting and throwing since early June, so running the bases without suffering a setback is likely the last box he has to check. It sounds like the Blue Jays could consider bringing Varsho back without putting him on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's recovering from a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Varsho got a late start in 2025 after offseason shoulder surgery, which is why he's played in only 24 games. He's hit just .207 (19-for-92) but with eight home runs and 20 RBI. Varsho is the team's everyday center fielder when he's healthy.

Bowden Francis Tue Jun 17 7:10pm CT

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they placed right-hander Bowden Francis (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander Paxton Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. The team also selected the contract of left-hander Justin Bruihl from the minors and designated right-hander Erik Swanson for assignment. When Francis returns from the IL, there's no guarantee he'll be back in Toronto's starting rotation after struggling to the tune of a 6.05 ERA (6.79 FIP) and 1.53 WHIP with 54 strikeouts and 27 walks in 64 innings over his 14 starts. The 29-year-old leads the league with eight losses in his fourth year in the majors. Veteran right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb), who has only made one start in his first year in Toronto, could replace Francis in the rotation if he has a successful rehab start this Friday.

Shohei Ohtani Tue Jun 17 6:50pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani could make his second start of the season Saturday or Sunday against the Washington Nationals, manager Dave Roberts said. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2023, Ohtani made a long-awaited return to pitching in the Dodgers' 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. The 30-year-old served as the Dodgers' opener and threw 28 pitches over one inning, allowing one run on two hits with no strikeouts or walks. Ohtani's command was understandably shaky after such a long layoff, but his velocity topped out at 100.2 mph.

Luis Gil Tue Jun 17 6:40pm CT

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (lat) will face hitters on Saturday for the first time spring training, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Gil has been on the shelf since suffering a high-grade lat strain in early March. While the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year is progressing in his recovery, it should still be several weeks before he's ready to return to the majors. That's assuming Gil doesn't encounter any setbacks. The 27-year-old put up a 3.50 ERA with 171 strikeouts and 77 walks in 151 2/3 innings last season.

Max Scherzer Tue Jun 17 6:30pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a second rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. If that goes well, the three-time Cy Young winner could rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation next week. Scherzer, who signed with the Jays in the offseason, made a three-inning season debut March 30 and has been on the shelf since. The Jays placed him on the 15-day IL with right thumb inflammation and later transferred him to the 60-day version. Scherzer looked good in his first Triple-A rehab start last Friday, when he tossed 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball with four hits allowed and two strikeouts. He threw 56 pitches in that outing and figures to surpass that total Wednesday.

Tylor Megill Tue Jun 17 6:20pm CT

The Mets announced that they have placed right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right-elbow sprain, retroactive to June 15. The team recalled righty Justin Garza from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Megill is going to miss at least four to five weeks, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. If Megill's inflammation persists over the next seven to 10 days, he'll be on the shelf even longer than that. It's another blow to a Mets rotation that recently lost righty Kodai Senga (hamstring) for the foreseeable future. Megill has struggled to work deep in starts this year, totaling 68 1/3 frames in 14 appearances, but has logged a solid 3.95 ERA with 89 strikeouts and 33 walks. The Mets will use a spot starter in his place against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. After that, righty Frankie Montas (lat) could rejoin their pitching staff. Montas hasn't pitched this year as a result of the lat sprain he suffered in spring training. It's up in the air whether he'll come back as a starter or reliever.

Gabriel Moreno Tue Jun 17 6:00pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with right-hand soreness, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. Moreno dealt with a hand injury earlier in the month, so maybe he aggravated it. Fantasy managers should consider Moreno to be day-to-day for now until we know more. Check back to see if he's available to play on Wednesday. In the meantime, Jose Herrera will cover behind the plate and bat ninth versus right-hander Chris Bassitt. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Moreno being pulled from the lineup.

    From RotoBaller

Tyler Glasnow Tue Jun 17 6:00pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (shoulder) threw a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday. This marks the second time that Glasnow has faced hitters while he works his way back from shoulder inflammation. The right-hander has been out since late April, but Glasnow appears to be making progress. The expectation is that Glasnow is going to need a few rehab starts before returning to the Dodgers rotation. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect Glasnow to be back in the mix until after the All-Star break.

    From RotoBaller

Hyeseong Kim Tue Jun 17 5:50pm CT

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder/outfielder Hyeseong Kim is heading to the bench ahead of Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres. Kim is now out of the starting lineup for the third time in the last four games. Sadly, there isn't enough playing time for Kim to see regular at-bats in the Dodgers lineup right now. He has been a decent option when he gets a chance to play. The lack of playing time makes Kim a tough player to roster in most fantasy formats right now. Tommy Edman will cover second base while Andy Pages is in center field against right-hander Randy Vasquez on Tuesday

    From RotoBaller

Seth Brown Tue Jun 17 5:40pm CT

Athletics outfielder Seth Brown (elbow) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Brown has missed the last four games with this lingering elbow issue. The A's have finally decided to place him on the shelf because the injury wasn't getting better. Brown has struggled with the bat this season, so he's already not worth rostering in most fantasy formats. He'll likely play a part-time role on the team once he's cleared to return. In a corresponding move, third baseman Gio Urshela (hamstring) has been activated off the injured list on Tuesday.

    From RotoBaller

Gio Urshela Tue Jun 17 5:30pm CT

Athletics third baseman Gio Urshela (hamstring) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Urshela is back on the A's roster after being sidelined since late May due to a hamstring injury. He figures to be in the mix for playing time at third base with Max Muncy. Urshela was hitting extremely well during his rehab stint, but was struggling with the bat before going on the injured list. He's slashing .224/.276/.337 with 13 RBI in 32 games. He can remain on the waiver wire in fantasy formats with the A's likely giving Muncy a majority of the starts at third base.

    From RotoBaller

Danny Jansen Tue Jun 17 5:20pm CT

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for Jansen who has started in each of the last two games. During those games, Jansen went 2-for-8 with two singles and one RBI. Jansen has been struggling with the bat this season, but has recorded at least one hit in each of his last four games. Despite that, Jansen isn't worth a look in fantasy formats right now. Matt Thaiss will cover behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Dean Kremer on Tuesday.

    From RotoBaller

Joey Bart Tue Jun 17 5:00pm CT

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Tuesday that they reinstated catcher Joey Bart (concussion) from the seven-day concussion injured list. Bart will immediately return behind the plate to catch left-hander Bailey Falter on Tuesday and will bat sixth against Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize at Comerica Park. The 28-year-old backstop is returning to the big-league lineup after going 3-for-13 with two RBI in five minor-league rehab starts. Bart will return to a .240/.347/.308 slash line with a below-average .655 OPS, one home run, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and one steal in 146 at-bats, and he'll settle back in as Pittsburgh's primary catcher. The former second overall pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2018 will be viable in two-catcher formats now that he's back with the Bucs. He played his best baseball in 2024 after being traded to the Pirates, clubbing a career-high 13 homers in just 80 games.

Josh Smith Tue Jun 17 4:40pm CT

Texas Rangers infielder/outfielder Josh Smith (hamstring) is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals due to a tight upper left hamstring, according to manager Bruce Bochy. It is a similar injury to what Smith dealt with last year on his other leg. The 27-year-old didn't need a trip to the injured list in 2024, and Bochy doesn't expect he will this year, either. Ezequiel Duran is starting at the hot corner on Tuesday and is batting ninth against Royals right-hander Seth Lugo. It sounds as though Smith will have a chance to return before the series finale on Thursday. The super-utility player continues to have a big role for Texas and has contributed a little bit of everything for fantasy managers with a .288 average (63-for-219) with seven homers, 20 RBI, 32 runs and eight steals in 63 games. Duran should be avoided in DFS with a .150 average and no homers in his 40 at-bats in 2025.

Lars Nootbaar Tue Jun 17 4:20pm CT

St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar is starting in left field and batting seventh for Tuesday's road game in Chicago against the White Sox and right-hander Shane Smith. With Nootbaar slumping of late at the plate, this will be the first time all year that he hasn't served as St. Louis' leadoff hitter. Second baseman Brendan Donovan will set the table on Tuesday for the Red Birds. It's bad news for Nootbaar's DFS value, but hopefully this won't last forever. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter was given the last two games off after going hitless in his last 24 plate appearances with a walk and 13 strikeouts in seven games since June 8. The cold stretch has dropped his season slash line to .226/.329/.361 with eight homers, 28 RBI, 39 runs scored and four stolen bases in 266 at-bats. Nootbaar has never faced Smith in his career.

Jonathan India Tue Jun 17 4:20pm CT

Kansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Jonathan India (shoulder) is back at second base and is hitting leadoff for the Royals in Tuesday's game at Globe Life Field against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Jack Leiter. India is returning to action in Arlington after suffering a left-shoulder subluxation last Friday against the Athletics that kept him out of the final two games of the series over the weekend. The 28-year-old is feeling better after a scheduled day off for travel on Monday. He hasn't really moved the needle in fantasy in his first year in Kansas City, though, hitting .248/.331/.335 with a .666 OPS, three home runs, 18 RBI and 27 runs scored in 242 at-bats. India does have a .277 xBA, though, so positive regression should be coming his way. However, he's currently in the 24th percentile in hard-hit rate and 41st percentile in maximum exit velocity.

Lenyn Sosa Tue Jun 17 4:10pm CT

The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder Lenyn Sosa (hip) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder/outfielder Brooks Baldwin to Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. Sosa is in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, playing first base and batting seventh against Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore. The 25-year-old had been serving as the team's starting second baseman before suffering a right hip-flexor strain, but he'll return to the cold corner with Chase Meidroth playing second on Tuesday. The Venezuelan infielder will be a middle-infield option in AL-only leagues for one of the worst teams in baseball, but he also carries third base eligibility in some formats. He'll return to a .274/.291/.383 slash line in 201 at-bats with four homers, 17 RBI and 15 runs scored.

    From RotoBaller

Andrew Benintendi Tue Jun 17 4:00pm CT

Chicago White Sox left-handed-hitting outfielder Andrew Benintendi will take a seat with a left-handed pitcher on the mound in Tuesday's contest against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Austin Slater is starting in left field and will bat out of the two-hole against Cardinals lefty Matthew Liberatore. It's no surprise Benintendi is on the bench for this one, as he's hit just .172 (5-for-29) with two of his six home runs and 10 strikeouts in 32 plate appearances against southpaws this year. The 30-year-old veteran isn't much more than outfield depth in AL-only leagues at this point in his career. Slater has missed time due to injury in 2025 and has also been a non-factor in fantasy leagues, batting .208 (10-for-48) with two home runs, four RBI and six runs scored in 25 games in his first year in Chicago. He has two hits in three career at-bats against Liberatore.
