George Kirby Wed Jun 4 12:20am CT

Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Tuesday that he expects starting pitcher George Kirby (face) will be "OK" after getting hit in the face by a line drive in a 5-1 loss to the Orioles. Wilson said that Kirby was able to get his hand on the baseball before it hit his face and that the Mariners should know more on Wednesday. Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for more news as to whether the 27-year-old will take his next turn in the rotation at the Angels. He has only made three starts this season due to right shoulder inflammation, so it remains to be seen if the Mariners take extra precautions with him.

Jordan Lawlar Wed Jun 4 12:20am CT

Arizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Jordan Lawlar went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and four RBI in a Tuesday night victory against Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 22-year-old returns to Triple-A after not picking up a hit in 19 at-bats in the majors, but has continued to tear up Triple-A pitching. Lawlar owns a monster .341/.419/.591 line with seven homers and 13 stolen bases on the season. There isn't much left for Lawlar to prove in the minor leagues, and it is unfortunate there isn't a clear runway for everyday playing time currently in Arizona. He remains a decent stash in case of an injury, as he still possesses the upside to be an impact bat.

Bryce Harper Wed Jun 4 12:00am CT

Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper (elbow) looked just fine in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Blue Jays after missing the last week of games due to being hit by a pitch in the elbow. Batting third, Harper went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks. The 32-year-old went back-to-back with Trea Turner against Bowden Francis in the first inning, lofting a splitter just over the right-field wall for his ninth long ball of the season. Harper has been a bit disappointing offensively this season by his standards but is still slashing a respectable .268/.380/.463 with 34 RBI and eight stolen bases in 245 plate appearances. The good news is that he picked things up in May after a slow March and April, so he has been trending in the right direction.

Hurston Waldrep Wed Jun 4 12:00am CT

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Hurston Waldrep took the loss in an 8-4 loss against Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. He allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four. It was a disappointing outing from Waldrep from a control standpoint, as it was his first start allowing four or more walks since April 25. Tabbed with a 70 grade splitter out of Florida, Waldrep threw the pitch only five times out of 87 pitches tonight. The 23-year-old has mostly struggled at Triple-A, with a 5.33 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and a 56:30 K:BB. The injuries continue to mount in the Braves' rotation, but it still would seem unlikely that Waldrep is called upon anytime soon.

Tomoyuki Sugano Wed Jun 4 12:00am CT

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano turned in another strong outing in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Mariners. Sugano pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with five strikeouts. The 35-year-old veteran has settled into his first season with MLB, going 5-3 with a 3.04 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and a 5.07 K/9 rate in 12 starts and 71 IP. His strikeout numbers are very low, although fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised given how he pitched throughout his career in Japan. The good news is that he has limited baserunners, allowing him to pitch deep into games. Seven of his 12 starts have lasted at least six IP. Sugano's next scheduled matchup will be a middling one at a hot Athletics lineup in Sacramento.

Orelvis Martinez Tue Jun 3 11:50pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays infield prospect Orelvis Martinez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBI against Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. The 23-year-old bounced back to a solid .811 OPS in May after a miserable April when he slashed .147/.237/.279 with a 39.5 percent strikeout rate. The whiff rate is still high at 37.2 percent, and his batted ball metrics are decent, with a 40.6 percent hard-hit rate and 8.5 percent barrel rate. He's flashed impressively high exit velocities in the past, but there is a lot of swing and miss. There's a good chance we'll see Martinez up with the Blue Jays as we get into the summer. In which case, he'd make for a deep league or AL-only add.

Pablo Lopez Tue Jun 3 11:50pm CT

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Pablo Lopez (shoulder) exited Tuesday's start against the Athletics before starting the sixth inning with right shoulder tightness, per Baseball America's Jessica Kleinschmidt. Lopez threw one warmup pitch and then exited the game to be replaced by Cole Sands. He had allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts on 72 pitches. He also hit a batter. Fantasy managers should wait for more news after the game to better understand the potential severity of his injury. Lopez did miss large chunks of time earlier in his career due to various shoulder injuries. It would be a shame for the Twins and fantasy managers if he were to miss any more time this season, as he has gone 4-3 with a 2.82 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP, and a 9.05 K/9 rate in 11 starts and 60 2/3 IP.

Addison Barger Tue Jun 3 11:40pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman/outfielder Addison Barger continued his impressive streak in Tuesday's 8-3 loss to the Phillies. Barger went 2-for-4 with a single, a two-run home run, and a strikeout. He also made a throwing error in right field. The 25-year-old turned on an eighth-inning Max Lazar fastball, launching it over the left-field wall. Barger has now homered in each of his last four games, bringing his season total to six. He has emerged as a source of power and batting average for fantasy managers, slashing .274/.338/.508 with 19 RBI in 136 plate appearances. He hasn't seen much playing time against left-handed pitchers, but he is currently just 26 percent rostered and has hit so well that he could provide a boost to fantasy managers' lineups even if he doesn't always play against lefties.

Roman Anthony Tue Jun 3 11:30pm CT

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Roman Anthony went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 6-5 extra innings win against Triple-A Rochester. Down one run in the bottom of the ninth, the phenom crushed a full-count breaking ball 110.5 MPH and 428 feet to send the game to extra innings. The 21-year-old has been very passive at the plate this season, with 46 walks to 50 strikeouts on the season and just a 35.6 percent swing rate. However, his batted ball metrics remain gaudy, and the whiff rate is in a solid place. The best prospect in baseball should be expected to make his debut almost any day now at this point and should be owned universally.

    From RotoBaller

Trea Turner Tue Jun 3 11:30pm CT

Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner had another solid game at the plate in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Blue Jays. Turner went 3-for-5 with a single, a solo home run, and a two-run HR. The 31-year-old got things going in the first inning, taking Bowden Francis to the opposite field in the first inning to score two. He later turned on an eighth-inning Erik Swanson offering, depositing it into the left-field bullpen. Turner has pretty much been exactly what fantasy managers have come to expect this season, slashing .305/.363/.452 with seven HR, 28 RBI, and 16 stolen bases in 262 plate appearances.

    From RotoBaller

Corbin Carroll Tue Jun 3 11:20pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll continued his power surge in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Braves. Carroll went 3-for-4 with a single, a solo home run, a three-run HR, and a walk. He was also caught stealing. The 24-year-old jumped all over a fifth-inning middle-middle Spencer Strider fastball for a solo shot and then broke things open in the ninth with a three-run blast off of Rafael Montero. Carroll has been on an incredible power pace this season even for his standards and is now slashing .262/.336/.578 with 18 HR, 39 RBI, and 10 stolen bases in 271 plate appearances. He may end up swapping some of his stolen base totals for HR, but fantasy managers can't complain when he's producing at this level overall.

    From RotoBaller

Ketel Marte Tue Jun 3 11:20pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte played his part offensively in Tuesday's 8-3 win over the Braves. Marte went 3-for-3 with a single, a solo home run, a two-run HR, and two walks. The 31-year-old got things going early, destroying a first-inning Spencer Strider offering deep into the left-center seats. He then lined a third-inning Strider fastball just over the right-field wall to score two more. Health has been an issue for Marte again this season, but he has been excellent when in the lineup, slashing .294/.417/.597 with 10 HR, 16 RBI, and two stolen bases in 144 plate appearances. He remains a high-end fantasy option whenever he is on the field.

    From RotoBaller

Ian Seymour Tue Jun 3 11:00pm CT

Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Ian Seymour got back on track on Tuesday for Triple-A Durham, allowing one earned run on six hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings of work. The former second-round draft pick hit a rough patch over his last three starts before Tuesday, allowing 10 earned runs in 13 2/3 IP (6.59 ERA), although there were still strikeouts aplenty, tallying 23 of them during that stretch. The southpaw leads all minor league pitchers in strikeouts with 84 on the season, and after Tuesday's outing, the 26-year-old owns a 2.95 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP through 61 innings. Seymour could be in the big leagues within the next couple of months, and would be a worthy waiver add in deeper and AL-only leagues for the strikeout upside.

    From RotoBaller

Walker Jenkins Tue Jun 3 10:50pm CT

Minnesota Twins outfield prospect Walker Jenkins (ankle) began a rehab assignment with the team's Florida Complex League (FCL) affiliate on Tuesday, going 0-for-1 with two walks and a run scored. He was also caught stealing once, but it is good to see that the sore ankle that has kept him out for all but two games this season was put to the test. It's unclear how long he'll be with the FCL Twins, but given how long his absence was, the Twins' top prospect (MLB No. 6) will probably need a handful of games there before potentially moving the rehab to another level. The former fifth-overall draft pick has just eight games at Double-A in his career, so look for him to rejoin Double-A Wichita once the rehab assignment is complete, and hopefully can build some momentum towards Triple-A by the end of the year. The 6-foot-3 slugger has one of the best hit tools in the minors to go along with good power and speed, and could have a big fantasy impact as soon as next year.

Steven Matz Tue Jun 3 10:50pm CT

St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Steven Matz served in a hybrid role between the starting rotation and the bullpen in April, but plenty of off days in May allowed him to take over as more of a traditional reliever in May. Matz posted a 3.00 ERA in six relief outings in May and held hitters to a .235 average and .559 OPS. It's unlikely St. Louis will move Matz back to a starting role, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo, because it would leave the team scrambling for coverage in their bullpen while also leaving them short on innings in the rotation on the days Matz starts. Instead of moving Matz back to a starting role, the Cards could use pitching prospect Michael McGreevy as a spot starter in June. The 34-year-old Matz hit a rough patch in Tuesday's 10-7 loss to the Royals, taking the loss while allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking none and striking out two.

    From RotoBaller

Nolan Gorman Tue Jun 3 10:40pm CT

The Athletic's Katie Woo writes that St. Louis Cardinals infielder Nolan Gorman was the odd man out for most of May, but the Cardinals want to find ways to get his bat in the lineup more regularly, and it could come in June with the Cardinals playing 28 games in 29 days. He came into Tuesday's game hitting .187/.280/.297 with just one homer and nine RBI in 91 at-bats this year, but manager Oliver Marmol and hitting coach Brant Brown are encouraged that he has dropped his strikeout rate from 37.6% in 2024 to 27.1% this year. In Tuesday's 10-7 loss to the Royals, Gorman made the start at designated hitter and finished 2-for-4 with his second home run of the season, two RBI, a walk and two strikeouts in the eight-hole. The 25-year-old's numbers don't look pretty in 2025, but he might deserve a pickup in deeper leagues if he gets on a roll and plays regularly in June for the Red Birds.

George Kirby Tue Jun 3 10:30pm CT

In a scary scene on Tuesday in the game between the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park, Mariners right-hander George Kirby (face) left the game with two outs in the fifth inning after taking a 102.7 mph comebacker from Orioles infielder Ramon Urias off the side of his face. The ball actually ricocheted to first base for the final out of the inning, but Kirby was bleeding from his mouth and was pulled. The good news is that the 27-year-old was able to walk off the field under his own power, but he'll undoubtedly undergo testing to see if he has a concussion or any other serious injuries. Before leaving, Kirby had allowed two earned runs on eight hits while walking one and fanning three in five innings. At the very least, Kirby will be in danger of missing his next start after getting a late start to the 2025 season with another injury. He could also land on the injured. Stay tuned.

Jeferson Quero Tue Jun 3 10:20pm CT

Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect Jeferson Quero (hamstring) has been reassigned to Triple-A Nashville after completing an 11-game rehab assignment with the team's Arizona Complex League affiliate. The Brewers' second-ranked prospect went 1-for-5 with a single and two strikeouts in his first game back with the Sounds on Tuesday night. In his last full season of 2023, the 5-foot-11 backstop hit .262 with 16 home runs and registered a .339 OBP thanks to a 10.0 percent walk rate in 90 games at Double-A. Due to so much missed time, he'll have to get off to a hot start in order to get the call to majors by season's end, and with William Contreras locked in as the starting catcher, there's no need to rush him.

    From RotoBaller

Brandon Woodruff Tue Jun 3 10:20pm CT

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said that initial X-rays on right-hander Brandon Woodruff's right elbow came back negative after he was hit by a comebacker in his minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday evening. Woodruff will still head back to Milwaukee for more testing, but it appears for now that he's avoided a potentially serious injury. The veteran hurler is officially being diagnosed with a right-elbow contusion for now, which could once again delay his 2025 debut. Woodruff didn't pitch at all last year after having right-shoulder surgery in November of 2023. He was nearing a return last month being ankle tendinitis pushed him back. Now he's dealing with an elbow contusion. It's been a wild ride for fantasy managers stashing the former ace, but everyone should continue to hold onto him with a return potentially right around the corner.

    From RotoBaller

Hunter Greene Tue Jun 3 9:20pm CT

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene had his start cut short after five innings and 85 pitches after feeling a grab in his groin. Manager Terry Francona said that he is set for an MRI tomorrow morning, reports Mike Petraglia. This is not good news at all for the flamethrower, who already spent time on the injured list this season with a groin strain. This was only his third start since returning and was finally starting to look like himself again with seven strikeouts through the five innings prior to feeling the grab. More updates will be available tomorrow after the MRI, but at this point, it's likely he's headed back to the injured list if it never fully healed the first time.
