Miami Marlins right-hander Max Meyer (hip) was seen playing catch before Monday's series opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, according to MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. Meyer is recovering from a left-hip impingement that has kept him out since June 2. Since he has yet to throw off a mound or even face live hitters, the 26-year-old is at least several weeks from returning from the 15-day injured list. He could be cutting it close to return to Miami's starting rotation before the mid-July All-Star break. The former third overall pick in 2020 out of Minnesota went 3-5 with a 4.73 ERA (4.40 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP with 68 punchouts and 20 walks in 64 2/3 innings over his 12 starts. Meyer looked great initially in 2024 after returning from Tommy John surgery before struggling down the stretch. He's still trying to find his groove, and if he does, he'll become a popular waiver-wire target in the second half.

The Triple-A Worcester Red Sox announced that Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (oblique) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with them on Tuesday night. Abreu was cleared to resume playing in games after he started swinging a bat last Friday. The 25-year-old Venezuelan outfielder was put on the 10-day injured list with a mild oblique strain, but he could return as early as this weekend against the San Francisco Giants if he doesn't suffer a setback at Worcester this week. Prior to his oblique pull, Abreu was hitting .245 (51-for-208) with 13 home runs, 32 RBI, 28 runs scored and four stolen bases in 64 games in his third year in the big leagues. He has been productive in the first half, but the presence of top prospect Roman Anthony in Boston's outfield now could mean less playing time for Abreu when he comes off the IL.

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar will likely play all nine innings in his first minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday night, according to manager Brian Snitker. The Braves' skipper also said that he's looking forward to having the switch-hitting Profar bat out of the two-hole when he returns from his 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs on July 2. It will be interesting to see how productive the 32-year-old is when he returns to the big leagues after getting popped for PEDs. Fantasy managers definitely shouldn't be expecting him to be as good as he was with the San Diego Padres in 2024, when he hit .280/.380/.459 with an .839 OPS, 24 home runs, 85 RBI, 94 runs scored and 10 stolen bases in 158 games. At the very least, though, Profar should make plenty of contact and be a nice source of runs. Pick him up if he's lingering on the waiver wire.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Emmett Sheehan (elbow) will be activated from the 60-day injured list to make his 2025 season debut on Wednesday against the division-rival San Diego Padres, according to David Vassegh. Even though the Padres have had their fair share of offensive struggles of late, Sheehan won't be a recommended fantasy streamer in his first start in the big leagues since having Tommy John surgery in May of last year that caused him to miss all of the 2024 season. The 25-year-old made his big-league debut with L.A. in 2023 and posted a 4.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 64 K's and 26 walks in 60 1/3 innings over 13 outings (11 starts). Sheehan threw only 63 pitches in his final rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City last Thursday, so he's unlikely to go deep in Wednesday's outing. As soon as one of the Dodgers' injured starters returns from the IL, Sheehan will most likely move to a relief role.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Will Warren was handed a loss on Tuesday in a 4-0 defeat to the Angels. His start wasn't bad by any means, as he allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out 11. This was his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season, but also only his second quality start. The 26-year-old typically struggles with efficiency, completing at least six full frames only in those two quality starts. The right-hander's 4.83 ERA makes him a liability for fantasy in that regard, although 90 strikeouts in 69 innings is a rate that not many other starters are capable of. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, currently lined up to be against the Orioles.

San Francisco Giants new infielder/designated hitter Rafael Devers was asked about his long-term position during his introductory press conference in the Bay Area on Tuesday and said, "I am here to play wherever they want me to play." In his debut with the team on Tuesday night against the Cleveland Guardians, Devers served as the DH and hit third. However, manager Bob Melvin said the team is "going to work with him and get him some ground balls at first." The 28-year-old hasn't played the field yet in 2025 after losing the third base gig in Boston to Alex Bregman, and then he refused to shift to first after the season-ending knee injury to Triston Casas. Offensively, he's been a must-start, as usual, slashing .272/.401/.504 with a .905 OPS, 15 homers, 58 RBI and 47 runs scored. He's expected to eventually become the team's everyday first baseman, making him even more valuable in fantasy.

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks earned his fifth win of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Yankees on Tuesday. He pitched six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and one walk while striking out nine. This was the most punchouts he's gotten in a start this season by far, with his previous high being six on May 31. No one was expecting this type of outing against one of the best offenses in baseball, especially for Hendricks, who had allowed at least three earned runs in nine of his last 11 outings. It's unlikely that this will be the start of a breakout for the 35-year-old, who will hope to hang on to some of this magic in his next start against the Astros.

Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers (hand) left Tuesday's contest after taking a ball off his right hand in the bottom of the fourth inning. It's officially been ruled a right hand contusion, with X-rays coming back negative for a fracture, reports Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star Tribune. That's good news for the 28-year-old who has been a staple behind the dish for the Twins this season, playing in 12 of the team's 15 games in June. Christian Vazquez, who was demoted to purely backup duties, replaced him in this game following the injury. Hopefully Jeffers will be back in the lineup within the next few days, as he's slashing a solid .251/.348/.379 with four home runs this season.
From RotoBaller
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds was pulled from Tuesday's game in the second inning due to his wife going into labor with their third child, reports Alex Stumpf of MLB.com. While there has been no official word yet from the Pirates, it's likely that he will be placed on the paternity list following the game. The maximum amount of time that can be spent on the paternity list is three days, meaning the 30-year-old should be expected back at some point in the upcoming series against the Texas Rangers. Reynolds is slashing a disappointing .222/.295/.360 on the year, although his .498 expected slugging percentage suggests that much better days are ahead for the switch-hitter.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Myles Straw (ankle) left Tuesday's game with a right ankle injury after crashing into the outfield wall while trying to make a catch. It looked to be a potentially substantial injury in the moment, with Straw remaining on the ground with trainers for a considerable amount of time. However, Toronto has since updated that Straw is dealing with a right ankle sprain. That is good news for what could have been a much worse situation, especially considering the speedy outfielder entered the game to replace Jonatan Clase, who also left the game with an injury. Expect further updates on the severity of the sprain, as that could determine whether a short injured-list stint will be needed or just a few days off.
From RotoBaller
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jonatan Clase (knee) left Tuesday's game with a right knee contusion. He was replaced in the field on defense after taking a 93-mph sinker off his knee in the previous half inning. He looked to be in considerable pain immediately following the hit by pitch, but it's a good sign that he was still able to remain in the game to run the bases. The Blue Jays confirmed that he left the game with a contusion, so there doesn't seem to be any worry of a more serious fracture. The 23-year-old has had an unexciting season so far, slashing .205/.279/.282 with one home run and three stolen bases in 24 games. He should only be on fantasy radars for very deep leagues.

The Miami Marlins have recalled right-handed pitching prospect Adam Mazur from Triple-A Jacksonville in order to make a potential spot start during the team's current homestand, according to Sports Grid's Craig Mish. Mazur, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is most likely to make the start on Wednesday in a tough matchup against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies, although nothing is official. The 24-year-old former second-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2022 out of Iowa has gone 3-4 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 55 strikeouts and 16 walks in 59 2/3 innings over his 12 outings (11 starts) for Jacksonville this year. If Mazur handles himself well in his big-league debut for the Fish, he could be in line for more starts before the All-Star break. Mazur had a rough big-league debut with SD last year, but he has some of the best command and control among pitching prospects.

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) threw a bullpen session in Florida on Monday and is scheduled for a live batting practice session on Thursday, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. Garcia will face live hitters this week after initially resuming a throwing program on June 6 as he works his way back from a right-shoulder impingement that landed him on the 15-day injured list on May 24. When he returns, the 34-year-old Dominican veteran will settle back into a high-leverage setup role at the back end of Toronto's bullpen while also seeing the occasional save chance. Before his shoulder injury, Garcia had a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with three saves, 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 relief innings in his return to Canada. Garcia has 29 career saves in 11 big-league seasons and will be valuable in holds leagues.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (hamstring) is currently at the team's spring training complex in Florida and is working through a running progression, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. The hope is that Varsho will run the bases on Thursday or Friday and be close to coming off the 10-day injured list after that. The 28-year-old has been hitting and throwing since early June, so running the bases without suffering a setback is likely the last box he has to check. It sounds like the Blue Jays could consider bringing Varsho back without putting him on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's recovering from a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Varsho got a late start in 2025 after offseason shoulder surgery, which is why he's played in only 24 games. He's hit just .207 (19-for-92) but with eight home runs and 20 RBI. Varsho is the team's everyday center fielder when he's healthy.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Tuesday that they placed right-hander Bowden Francis (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a right-shoulder impingement and recalled right-hander Paxton Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. The team also selected the contract of left-hander Justin Bruihl from the minors and designated right-hander Erik Swanson for assignment. When Francis returns from the IL, there's no guarantee he'll be back in Toronto's starting rotation after struggling to the tune of a 6.05 ERA (6.79 FIP) and 1.53 WHIP with 54 strikeouts and 27 walks in 64 innings over his 14 starts. The 29-year-old leads the league with eight losses in his fourth year in the majors. Veteran right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb), who has only made one start in his first year in Toronto, could replace Francis in the rotation if he has a successful rehab start this Friday.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani could make his second start of the season Saturday or Sunday against the Washington Nationals, manager Dave Roberts said. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2023, Ohtani made a long-awaited return to pitching in the Dodgers' 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Monday. The 30-year-old served as the Dodgers' opener and threw 28 pitches over one inning, allowing one run on two hits with no strikeouts or walks. Ohtani's command was understandably shaky after such a long layoff, but his velocity topped out at 100.2 mph.

New York Yankees right-hander Luis Gil (lat) will face hitters on Saturday for the first time spring training, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Gil has been on the shelf since suffering a high-grade lat strain in early March. While the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year is progressing in his recovery, it should still be several weeks before he's ready to return to the majors. That's assuming Gil doesn't encounter any setbacks. The 27-year-old put up a 3.50 ERA with 171 strikeouts and 77 walks in 151 2/3 innings last season.
From RotoBaller
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb) will make a second rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet reports. If that goes well, the three-time Cy Young winner could rejoin the Blue Jays' rotation next week. Scherzer, who signed with the Jays in the offseason, made a three-inning season debut March 30 and has been on the shelf since. The Jays placed him on the 15-day IL with right thumb inflammation and later transferred him to the 60-day version. Scherzer looked good in his first Triple-A rehab start last Friday, when he tossed 4 1/3 innings of two-run ball with four hits allowed and two strikeouts. He threw 56 pitches in that outing and figures to surpass that total Wednesday.

The Mets announced that they have placed right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with a right-elbow sprain, retroactive to June 15. The team recalled righty Justin Garza from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Megill is going to miss at least four to five weeks, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. If Megill's inflammation persists over the next seven to 10 days, he'll be on the shelf even longer than that. It's another blow to a Mets rotation that recently lost righty Kodai Senga (hamstring) for the foreseeable future. Megill has struggled to work deep in starts this year, totaling 68 1/3 frames in 14 appearances, but has logged a solid 3.95 ERA with 89 strikeouts and 33 walks. The Mets will use a spot starter in his place against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. After that, righty Frankie Montas (lat) could rejoin their pitching staff. Montas hasn't pitched this year as a result of the lat sprain he suffered in spring training. It's up in the air whether he'll come back as a starter or reliever.
From RotoBaller
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with right-hand soreness, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. Moreno dealt with a hand injury earlier in the month, so maybe he aggravated it. Fantasy managers should consider Moreno to be day-to-day for now until we know more. Check back to see if he's available to play on Wednesday. In the meantime, Jose Herrera will cover behind the plate and bat ninth versus right-hander Chris Bassitt. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Moreno being pulled from the lineup.
