    J.P. Crawford Fri May 16 6:40pm CT

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (shoulder) is playing shortstop and batting leadoff for Friday's series opener in San Diego against the Padres and right-hander Stephen Kolek. The Mariners scratched Crawford from Wednesday's series finale against the New York Yankees but he's back after a travel day on Thursday. The 30-year-old brings little power to the shortstop position but has hit a respectable .271 (38-for-140) on the year for the M's with three home runs, 18 RBI, 18 runs scored and two stolen bases in 40 games played. The former 16th overall pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2013 is hitting .240 (12-for-50) with a homer, two doubles, four RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored in 11 games in the month of May. Crawford is hitless in just one career at-bat against Kolek.

Moises Chace Fri May 16 6:30pm CT

Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Moises Chace (elbow) is set to undergo Tommy John surgery. The 21-year-old is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the system on MLB.com. Through the opening month of the regular season, Chace logged 16 2/3 innings at Double-A. Through this stint, Chase held a 3.24 ERA with a 1.62 WHIP. He struck out 19 batters but struggled to command his pitches as he served up 16 free passes. Last season, Chace logged 60 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A and posted an overall 3.56 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect Chace to remain sidelined through at least the first half of the 2026 season. When he does return, the Phillies will likely keep him at Double-A given his early-season struggles.

Ezequiel Tovar Fri May 16 6:30pm CT

The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that they activated shortstop Ezequiel Tovar (hip) from the 10-day injured list. Tovar is starting at shortstop and batting second in Friday's series opener against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Corbin Burnes. The Rockies also reinstated infielder/outfielder Tyler Freeman (oblique) and infielder Aaron Schunk (groin) from the 10-day IL, selected the contract of left-hander Carson Palmquist from the minors, optioned outfielder Sean Bouchard to Triple-A Albuquerque, optioned right-hander Anthony Molina to Albuquerque and designated infielder/outfielder Owen Miller and Alan Trejo for assignment. Tovar returns after landing on the IL in mid-April with a bruised hip. The 23-year-old went 4-for-18 in five rehab games for Albuquerque and will return to being Colorado's starting SS. He'll hope to pick things up after hitting just .212 (14-for-66) with no homers in the early going in 2025.

Xavier Edwards Fri May 16 6:20pm CT

Miami Marlins shortstop Xavier Edwards (back) was scratched from Friday's series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays due to back tightness. With Edwards sitting out, Javier Sanoja will play shortstop and will hit ninth against Rays right-hander Taj Bradley, with outfielder Jesus Sanchez moving up to the leadoff spot. Believe it or not, this will be Edwards' first game off of the 2025 season. It's unclear if the injury will keep the speedy 25-year-old shortstop out beyond Friday's contest, but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until we know more. The former first-rounder by the San Diego Padres in 2018 hits from both sides of the plate and is primarily useful in deeper fantasy formats for his speed. He has yet to go deep in 2025 and is batting .263 (45-for-171) with 11 RBI, 18 runs and 11 steals. Sanoja is a low-upside DFS sleeper in the nine-hole with a homer, nine RBI and 10 runs in 87 at-bats this year.

Justin Wrobleski Fri May 16 6:20pm CT

The Los Angeles Dodgers have optioned left-handed pitching prospect Justin Wrobleski to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Wrobleski was tasked to pitch four innings of relief on Thursday but will now return to Triple-A. In this contest against the Athletics, the left-hander performed quite well, logging four one-hit innings. He did not allow a walk and struck out four batters. During his first outing of the season, Wrobleski allowed eight runs and eight hits across five innings against the Nationals. Last season, the No. 10-ranked prospect in the system held a 5.70 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP across 36 1/3 innings of work. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production at Triple-A, as he should be in the mix to return to Los Angeles later in the summer.

    From RotoBaller

Ketel Marte Fri May 16 6:20pm CT

Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte (hip) is starting at the keystone and batting in his customary leadoff spot in Friday's series opener at Chase Field against the Colorado Rockies. After a scheduled day off for the team on Thursday, Marte will return to action after he was pulled late in Wednesday's game against the San Francisco Giants with hip stiffness. The 31-year-old All-Star hit two home runs in that contest, though, and his departure from the game was mostly precautionary. It's unclear who the Rockies are starting in the series opener in the desert on Friday, but Marte should be returned to all starting fantasy lineups regardless. His counting stats on the season are down because of a stint on the injured list in April due to a hamstring injury. Marte is currently slashing .262/.377/.554 with five homers, eight RBI and 14 runs scored.

Anthony Santander Fri May 16 6:10pm CT

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder/designated hitter Anthony Santander will retreat to the bench for Friday's series opener versus the visiting Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre. George Springer will serve as the DH and will hit cleanup, while Jonatan Clase will start in left field and bat ninth against Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty. It's been a rough start to Santander's time with Toronto in 2025. The 30-year-old Venezuelan switch-hitter has hit .187 (29-for-155) with five home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs scored, 17 walks and 41 strikeouts in 173 plate appearances after clubbing a career-high 44 homers and driving in 102 in 2024 with the Orioles. He went 1-for-12 with five strikeouts in his last three games and missed some time with a sore shoulder. Springer has swung the bat well this year but is hitless in 14 career at-bats against Flaherty. Clase has never faced Flaherty.

    From RotoBaller

    Tyler O'Neill Fri May 16 6:00pm CT

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) was scratched from Friday's starting lineup against the Washington Nationals due to left-shoulder discomfort. O'Neill first felt it in the batting cage a few days ago, but it was especially sore on Friday. Manager Brandon Hyde said that O'Neill is being considered day-to-day. With the 29-year-old sitting out, Ramon Laureano got the start in left field for the O's and was hitting in the cleanup spot against Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore. While it doesn't sound like a serious injury, it's not great news for a player that was just activated from the injured list last Friday after a two-week absence due to neck inflammation. O'Neill has a nice power/speed combination, but he has trouble staying healthy and is hitting just .188 (15-for-80) with two homers, 10 RBI, nine runs and two steals in his first 24 games as an Oriole in 2025.

    From RotoBaller

Noah Cameron Fri May 16 6:00pm CT

Kansas City Royals left-handed pitching prospect Noah Cameron is set to make a spot start on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Cameron will take the spot of Seth Lugo (finger), who is being given the weekend off due to inflammation in his right finger. Cameron made his MLB debut earlier this season and performed very well, tossing six 1/3 one-hit innings against the Athletics. In this start, he struck out three batters and walked five. Through 32 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season, the southpaw has posted a 3.31 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP. He has tallied 38 punchouts and walked 13 batters. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should view Cameron as a viable streaming option given his strong debut, but should not expect him to remain on the MLB roster following this start.

    From RotoBaller

Aaron Nola Fri May 16 5:50pm CT

Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (ankle) is headed to the 15-day injured list on Friday with a sprained right ankle that he suffered before his last start against the Cleveland Guardians. Mike Abel will make his big-league debut in place of Nola on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but it will just be a spot start. After that, right-handed veteran Taijuan Walker will rejoin Philly's rotation when the team heads to Colorado to face the Rockies. It helps explain Nola's last two rough outings, when he allowed a combined 13 earned runs on 18 hits (five homers) while walking three and striking out seven in 8 2/3 innings against Cleveland and St. Louis. It's currently unclear if he'll be able to return from the IL on May 30 when he's eligible. It's been a tough year so far for the former All-Star, as he's gone 1-7 with a 6.16 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with 52 K's and 16 walks in 49 2/3 innings over nine starts. Don't drop him just yet.

    From RotoBaller

Travis Bazzana Fri May 16 5:50pm CT

Cleveland Guardians second base prospect Travis Bazzana (oblique) is being evaluated for a "right-side flank" injury. The former first overall pick from last year's MLB Draft exited early on Wednesday and was also held out of the starting nine on Thursday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as an extended absence could close the door on a 2025 MLB debut. After being drafted out of Oregon State, Bazzana made his professional debut with High-A Lake County and posted a .238/.369/.396 slash line with seven doubles and three home runs. He has spent the entire opening month of the 2025 season with Double-A Akron and has posted a modest .252/.362/.433 line. However, over his last 14 games, he has begun to find his power swing as he has posted a .519 SLG with a .886 OPS. If he continues to perform well, he could join Triple-A in the second half of the season.

Carlos Correa Fri May 16 5:50pm CT

The Minnesota Twins placed shortstop Carlos Correa (concussion) on the seven-day concussion injured list on Friday, according to The Atheltic's Dan Hayes. Correa collided with outfielder Byron Buxton, who is in the league's concussion protocol, in Thursday's win over the Baltimore Orioles. The 30-year-old was not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers and will now sit out for an additional seven days, if not longer, depending on how he progresses through the league's protocols for head injuries. The earliest he'll be able to return will be May 23. Keep Correa stashed in all fantasy leagues while he recovers. In the meantime, Brooks Lee, the eighth overall pick in 2022 out of Cal Poly, will function as Minnesota's primary shortstop. The 24-year-old switch-hitter will gain deep-league value in the short term. He enters Friday's action hitting .250 (25-for-100) with four homers and 10 RBI.

    From RotoBaller

Mick Abel Fri May 16 5:50pm CT

Philadelphia Phillies right-handed pitching prospect Mick Abel is set to make his MLB debut on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Earlier on Friday, the Phillies placed starting pitcher Aaron Nola (ankle) on the 15-day IL. However, Abel is only expected to receive one start as veteran Taijuan Walker will replace Abel in the rotation next week. The former 15th overall pick is viewed as one of the top prospects in the Philadelphia system. Through his first 46 1/3 innings of work this season, the right-hander has performed well at Triple-A, holding a 2.53 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP. During this stint, he has struck out 51 batters and served up 19 walks. Last season at Triple-A, Abel struggled as he held a high 6.46 ERA. Given his progress this season, he will have streaming appeal in deeper formats facing the struggling Pirates.

Luis Garcia Jr. Fri May 16 3:00pm CT

The Washington Nationals activated second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. off the paternity list on Friday and optioned infielder Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. The Nationals have yet to release their starting lineup for Friday's series opener in Baltimore against the Orioles and left-hander Cade Povich, but fantasy managers should expect Garcia to be back at second base. As far as whether to start the 25-year-old left-handed hitter in DFS lineups, that will only be for the bold. Garcia is hitting just .226 (30-for-133) in his first 38 games after a breakout season in 2024. He's also really struggled against lefties, going 2-for-20 against them with no homers and three RBI in 27 plate appearances. Garcia is hitting .184 (7-for-38) with a homer, two doubles, five RBI, two steals and eight strikeouts in 11 games in the month of May.

    From RotoBaller

Harrison Bader Fri May 16 2:50pm CT

Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader (groin) remains out of the starting lineup for Friday's series opener at American Family Field against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers. Bader will miss his second straight game after tweaking his groin in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles while trying to make a play in right field. Willi Castro is starting in left field on Friday and will hit fifth, while Kody Clemens draws into the lineup at second base while batting out of the six-hole for the Twins. The Twins are short-handed in the outfield heading into their weekend series with both Bader and Byron Buxton (head) injured. It's unclear if Bader is a candidate to land on the injured list, but he's been a contributor both on offense and defense so far in his first season in Minnesota, hitting a healthy .300 with four homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs and four steals in 110 at-bats.

    From RotoBaller

Kristian Campbell Fri May 16 2:50pm CT

Boston Red Sox infield prospect Kristian Campbell was seen doing some first base drill work at Fenway Park before Friday's series opener against the visiting Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com's Ian Browne. The Red Sox asked Rafael Devers to consider moving to first base after Triston Casas' (knee) season-ending injury, but he refused, so the club is still searching for answers while mixing in Abraham Toro and Nick Sogard in at the cold corner with Romy Gonzalez (back) on the injured list. The 22-year-old Campbell has been fine offensively as a lineup regular in his first MLB season, but his defensive metrics at second have been lacking. Nothing is official, but if Campbell were to move to first base regularly, it would open up playing time at the keystone in Beantown for David Hamilton and Sogard. Sogard is starting at first in Friday's series opener against the Braves and left-hander Chris Sale.

    From RotoBaller

Ty France Fri May 16 2:40pm CT

Minnesota Twins first baseman Ty France (foot) is back at first base and is hitting cleanup for the red-hot Twins in Friday's series opener against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Chad Patrick at American Family Field. France missed the last two games for the Twins after fouling a ball off his foot and suffering a contusion in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. It's good news for a suddenly banged-up Twins team who lost outfielders Byron Buxton (head) and Harrison Bader (groin) and shortstop Carlos Correa (head) in the last two days. The 30-year-old France has come back to Earth a bit in the month of May after a hot start and is now slashing .252/.316/.361 with three home runs, 21 RBI, 18 runs and a stolen base. He has never faced Patrick in his career.

    From RotoBaller

Byron Buxton Fri May 16 2:30pm CT

Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa (head) and outfielder Byron Buxton (head) are both out of the lineup for Friday's series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers after they collided chasing a pop-up in Thursday's win over the Baltimore Orioles. Although neither player has been put on the injured list, they are both in the league's concussion protocol, and it's unknown if they'll be available to play all weekend. Brooks Lee is starting at short and batting third, while DaShawn Keirsey Jr. is in center field and hitting eighth against Brewers right-hander Chad Patrick. Fantasy managers should prepare for the potential of both Correa and Buxton landing on the seven-day concussion list if they are unable to return in Milwaukee this weekend. Both Lee and Keirsey will be everyday players for Minnesota until Correa and Buxton are able to return.

    From RotoBaller

Hunter Greene Fri May 16 2:20pm CT

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said that right-hander Hunter Greene (groin) will throw a bullpen session on Saturday. Greene is recovering from a Grade 1 strain of his right groin on May 8 and will now proceed to throw his first bullpen in his recovery process. The hard-throwing 25-year-old could require multiple bullpen sessions before being cleared to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, so his timetable for a return is a bit unclear right now. But barring a setback, it's not out of the question that he'll be back in the Reds' starting rotation before the calendar flips to June. The former second overall pick in 2017 needs to be stashed in an injured-list spot in all fantasy formats as the team' ace. Before hurting his groin, Greene had gone 4-2 with a 2.36 ERA and 0.81 WHIP with 61 strikeouts and only eight walks in 45 2/3 innings over eight starts.

    From RotoBaller

Ronald Acuna Jr. Fri May 16 2:10pm CT

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) homered in his first minor-league rehab game earlier this week at the rookie-level Florida Complex League and was immediately moved to Triple-A Gwinnett, where he went 2-for-3 with a single and a double on Thursday in his second rehab game. Although he tore his left ACL on May 26 of 2024, it doesn't seem like he'll need many more rehab games before he rejoins the Braves' lineup. He started in right field on Thursday and is scheduled to play again for Gwinnett on Friday. After that, he could go on the road with the Stripers or move his rehab to Double-A Columbus. The 27-year-old is off to a good start on his rehab assignment, but fantasy managers may not get him back until closer to the end of May as the Braves look to be cautious with the former MVP. When Acuna returns, he'll be a must-start in fantasy immediately.
