Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo went 2-4 with a home run, a walk, and two RBI in his team's 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies. Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Jose Soriano threw 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his team's 9-1 victory over the Houston Astros. The young righty allowed three hits and three walks but struck out 10 while recording the win. It's the third consecutive excellent start for Soriano, as he's struck out 28 batters while allowing just two earned runs over his last 20 2/3 innings pitched. Soriano's ERA now sits at 3.39 for the season through 93 innings (16 starts). However, walks remain an issue, as his 10.9% walk rate has contributed to an elevated 1.42 WHIP. Soriano's next start will be at home against the Washington Nationals.

The New York Mets have optioned catcher Francisco Alvarez to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled fellow backstop Hayden Senger, the team announced. It's a surprising fall from grace for Alvarez, who has been the Mets' primary catcher since 2023. Alvarez swatted 25 home runs and drove in 63 runs that year and continued to produce solid numbers during an injury-shortened 2024. However, this season hasn't gone well for the 23-year-old. It started poorly when he suffered a fractured hamate bone in his hand during spring training. Alvarez didn't debut until April 25 as a result, and he has since batted an underwhelming .236/.319/.333 with three home runs and 11 RBI in 138 plate appearances. The 23-year-old did go yard and collect two hits in a win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to save him from a demotion. For now, the Mets will rely on Luis Torrens as their main backstop. Torrens has minimal offensive upside, having hit .232/.309/.344 with one HR and 13 RBI in 139 trips to the plate.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb) will come off the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. Scherzer, out for almost three months with a thumb injury, jumped over his final hurdle Sunday when he threw a successful 30- to 40-pitch bullpen session. "My stuff is fine," the 40-year-old told me Hazel Mae and Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. "I'm trying everything I can to manage this (thumb) and make sure I can recover." Scherzer made just one start this season, a three-inning debut March 29, before landing on the shelf. More recently, he has performed well in two Triple-A rehab starts. While the three-time Cy Young winner has been unreliable over the past couple of years because of injuries, there's enough upside to merit a look on the fantasy waiver wire.

Los Angeles Angels catcher Logan O'Hoppe hit two home runs and recorded four RBI in his team's 9-1 victory over the Houston Astros. Before Saturday night, O'Hoppe had been struggling mightily in June. He had just four hits and zero homers in the month before this breakout game. Despite the rough stretch, O'Hoppe has been a power asset with 16 home runs this season. However, he's been a drag on batting average (.233) and runs (24). With a 33.2% strikeout rate and a .268 on-base percentage, managers should expect O'Hoppe's struggles in those categories to continue. Thanks to his power, O'Hoppe remains a starting catcher across all league formats, but his upside is limited.

Minnesota Twins outfielder/infielder Willi Castro is out of the team's lineup Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers. He's dealing with soreness in his right wrist. The hope is that it won't be a lingering issue for Castro, who has gotten off to a nice start this season. The defensively versatile 28-year-old is hitting .280/.362/.456 with seven homers, 17 RBI, 34 runs scored, and three steals over 218 plate appearances. St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Victor Scott II is not in the team's lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Cincinnati Reds. Washington Nationals first baseman Nathaniel Lowe hit a pair of solo home runs Saturday night in his team's 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lowe has been hitting for more power this season. He's racked up 12 homers in 319 plate appearances after hitting 16 in 565 plate appearances last year. However, his power surge has been accompanied by a drop in average. A lifetime .267 hitter, Lowe has hit .227 this season and his strikeout rate has jumped from 22.1% to 27.3%. Lowe is receiving regular playing time with the Nationals, so he remains an acceptable corner infield option in deep leagues. Lowe is a player to monitor as the MLB trade deadline approaches. For now, fantasy managers can use Lowe as a streamer while he's swinging a hot bat.

The Minnesota Twins will start left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Right-hander David Festa was previously penciled in to start for the Twins. Texas Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford (back) is returning to the starting nine on Sunday when they conclude a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Langford has been held out of action in the previous two games due to lower back stiffness. However, the former top prospect was able to avoid a lengthy absence. This afternoon, the Florida product is slated to bat in the two-hole and cover center field. The Baltimore Orioles have optioned relief pitcher Yennier Cano to Triple-A Norfolk prior to their contest on Sunday against the New York Yankees. Cano has had a disappointing start to the season and will look to find his footing in the minor leagues. Through 26 2/3 innings this season, the primary stopper man has posted a high 4.73 ERA with a 1.39 WHIP. During this stretch, Cano has struck out 31 batters and tallied 11 holds. However, he has taken four losses and two blown saves. The Chicago White Sox have activated right-handed pitcher Adrian Houser from the paternity list prior to his start on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Ryan Yarbrough (oblique) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right oblique strain. In a corresponding move, the Yankees promoted left-handed pitcher Jayvien Sandridge from Triple-A. Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Luis L. Ortiz posted a strong bounce back outing versus the Athletics on Saturday. Ortiz gave up six runs during his last outing, but looked untouchable here. He tossed six scoreless innings, allowing two hits, while striking out 10 batters in the win. The 10 strikeouts tied a season-high for Ortiz as the A's hitters had no answers in this one. Ortiz has been inconsistent this season, which makes him a tough player to roster in fantasy formats. He could have decent streaming value for his next outing against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Minnesota Twins outfield prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez (hip) began a rehab assignment with the team's Florida Complex League affiliate on Saturday. The left-handed slugger went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI single, and a run scored in the contest, which was his first game action since May 30. The Twins' second-ranked prospect had been on the injured list with a hip injury, which is one of a multitude of injuries that have afflicted him and caused him to miss significant chunks of time over the last few seasons. The 22-year-old has 60-grade power and owns an elite 21.7 percent walk rate over the course of his minor league career, however, he's a .248 hitter with a 30.5 percent strikeout rate as well. If he can remain healthy and make some modest improvements on offense, there's still a chance the 5-foot-11 Dominican could still get the call to the big leagues later this year, although he's not a stash candidate at this time.
