Boston Red Sox outfielders Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu will both take a seat for Tuesday's contest against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park with left-hander Cristopher Sanchez on the mound. Rob Refsnyder is starting in left field and batting leadoff, while rookie Roman Anthony is in right field and in the two-hole. Duran is hitting only .209 (29-for-139) with one of his nine home runs on the year against left-handers, and he's sitting against a southpaw for the second straight time. Abreu, who also hits from the left side, has batted .225 (9-for-40) with only one of his 20 homers coming against lefties. Refsnyder is known as a lefty killer in his career and is hitting a solid .273 (30-for-110) on the year, but he doesn't come with much pop. Refsynder has gone 22-for-76 (.289) with four of his five long balls on the year against southpaws.

San Francisco Giants infielder/designated hitter Rafael Devers is making his first career start at first base and will bat third in the order on Tuesday against the hosting Atlanta Braves and right-hander Davis Daniel at Truist Park. After refusing to play first base in Boston after the season-ending injury to Triston Casas (knee), Devers was traded to the Giants in the first half and immediately said he'd be willing to work out at the cold corner. In fact, this is also the first time that the 28-year-old will play the field in 2025 after serving as a full-time DH for his first 102 starts of the season. His fantasy managers will just be hoping that the Dominican can get going at the plate on Tuesday. Since joining the Gigantes, the three-time All-Star has hit just .219 (23-for-105) with two home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored in 29 games played.

Detroit Tigers infielder/outfielder Javier Baez (shoulder) is back at shortstop and will hit eighth for Tuesday's contest against the hosting Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Mitch Keller at PNC Park. Baez was pulled from Sunday's game after aggravating an existing left-shoulder injury in the series finale against the Texas Rangers. It wasn't considered a major injury, though, and the 32-year-old All-Star will return to the Tigers' lineup after sitting out Monday's series opener. Although he has been quiet at the plate recently, 2025 has been a pretty nice bounce-back season for the free-swinging shortstop, as he was an All-Star for the third time and is currently hitting .274/.308/.438 with 10 homers and 39 RBI in 81 games. Baez has hit just .180 in his last 15 games, but he's batting .357 with a solo homer in 14 career at-bats against Keller.

San Francisco Giants pitching prospect Carson Seymour was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. The Giants' 20th-ranked prospect has pitched well there this season, registering a 3.86 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 90 strikeouts in 77 innings pitched over 16 appearances (15 starts). The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in late June, but as a reliever, and in those two appearances, he was unable to replicate that success. The 6-foot-6 hurler allowed seven hits, including three home runs, in a total of four innings pitched, tallying a 2:0 K:BB. It's not clear if he'll be used as a starter or reliever this time around, as the Giants sent one starter (Hayden Birdsong) and one reliever (Tristan Beck) down to Triple-A, and brought one other reliever (Sean Hjelle) up with him, but until more is known, the Kansas State product can safely be left on the waiver wire.

The Athletic's David O'Brien reports that Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley (abdomen) will not come off the injured list on Tuesday. MLB.com's Mark Bowman writes that the Braves might wait to activate Riley before their series opener on Friday against the Texas Rangers on the road. The Braves are well out of playoff contention early in the second half of the season and don't feel the need to rush the 28-year-old right-handed slugger back from his abdominal strain. It means that Nacho Alvarez Jr. should make another couple starts at the hot corner this week for the remainder of the series against the San Francisco Giants. When Riley returns, though, he'll settle back into an everyday role at the hot corner. Riley should be rostered in all fantasy leagues and will return to a .274/.324/.441 slash line with 14 homers, 48 RBI and 51 runs scored.

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Anthony Solometo (shoulder) was reportedly pulled off his rehab assignment after a single start at Single-A Bradenton on June 18. The Pirates' 13th-ranked prospect made two starts at Double-A Altoona to begin the year, but experienced shoulder soreness that landed him on the injured list in mid-April, and he's now withouta clear timetable for return. He reached Double-A in his first professionalseason back in 2023, but has seen diminished velocity and ineffectiveness ever since, posting a 5.98 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and a 4.1 percent K-BB% in 20 appearances (17 starts) at that level last year. He's still only 22 years old, so there's time to figure it out, but he's off the fantasy radar for now.

The San Francisco Giants optioned right-handers Hayden Birdsong and Tristan Beck on Tuesday, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. In a corresponding move, pitchers Carson Seymour and Sean Hjelle were recalled from Triple-A Sacramento. The move to demote Birdsong comes after he surrendered five earned runs on just one hit while walking four and striking out none while failing to record an out in Monday's 9-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves. The disastrous outing pushed the 23-year-old's ERA up to 4.80 on the year, and he's added a 1.49 WHIP with 68 strikeouts and 37 walks in 65 2/3 innings in 21 appearances (10 starts) in his second year in the big leagues. In his last five outings, he has really struggled to the tune of a rough 10.38 ERA with 18 K's and 17 free passes. Seymour, one of the team's top prospects, figures to get run in San Fran's rotation now.

Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Andrew Painter will join the Philly rotation "if we have the need and if he is throwing well at that time. He isn't guaranteed a spot in a rotation at any point," according to the team's president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski. He mentioned earlier this year that a July timeframe would be what they'd be looking at for a call-up for Painter, but it hinges on the rotation needs, and right now, they do not have one in his view. Not only that, Painter hasn't been pitching well as of late, allowing five home runs while posting a 7.04 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP, and an 8.22 K/9 over his last three starts. There's still a good chance Philadelphia's top-ranked prospect will make a debut sometime this year, but it might take an injury at this point. The 6-foot-7 righty remains one of the top prospect stashes in fantasy leagues due to his upside and environment.

The New York Mets announced on Tuesday that they reinstated outfielder/designated hitter Starling Marte (knee) from the 10-day injured list and optioned infielder Jared Young to Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. It's unclear if Marte will enter the starting lineup right away for Tuesday's contest against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. The 36-year-old veteran is skipping a minor-league rehab assignment after missing the last two weeks with a bruise in his right knee. Marte will most likely see most of his playing time moving forward out of the DH spot for the Mets, and at this point in his career, he probably shouldn't be counted on as an everyday player. Before his injury, he was batting a solid .270 (44-for-163) but with only four home runs, 20 RBI, 22 runs and five steals. Fantasy managers also can't count on Marte running much anymore.

New York Mets pitching prospects Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean could fill bullpen roles this season if necessary, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. As the trade deadline looms, one of the Mets' glaring weaknesses is their relief corps, and they could deal away from their infield depth in order to secure it. However, in the event they do not, it could be either Sproat or McLean. They've been performing well as starters in the minors, and it wouldn't necessarily mean they would be relievers next year and beyond. The Mets' fourth (McLean) and fifth-ranked (Sproat) prospects could also still be called up to serve as a cog in the rotation in the event one of their current starters goes down with an injury. Sproat's season-long numbers are deceiving as he's been dominant lately, posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.61 WHIP, and a 10.57 K/9 (25.9 percent K-BB%) over his last four starts, while McLean owns a 2.58 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 10.03 K/9 (15.9 percent K-BB%) in 17 games (14 starts).

The Tampa Bay Rays placed infielder Brandon Lowe (ankle, foot) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with left-ankle/foot tendinitis, according to Bally Sports' Ryan Bass. It was announced on Saturday that Lowe was removed from the game due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot, but now he's apparently dealing with ankle and foot tendinitis. Either way, the 31-year-old All-Star is going to miss at least 10 days and potentially longer. It's a tough break for the Rays and for Lowe's fantasy managers, as he was having one of the best years of his career in the first half with a .269/.320/.480 slash line, .800 OPS, 19 home runs, 50 RBI, 55 runs and three steals in 323 at-bats. With Lowe out for at least the next 10 days, expect the Rays to mix and match with Jose Caballero and Taylor Walls at the keystone.

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday in exchange for cash considerations, according to Ryan Bass of Bally Sports. To make room for Fairchild on the 40-man roster, the Rays transferred right-hander Manuel Rodriguez (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Fairchild will head to the American League after the Braves designated him for assignment on Monday. The 29-year-old can remain on the waiver wire in most fantasy formats, as he'll most likely serve as outfield depth in his new home with the Rays. At best, he might get some run against left-handed pitchers. The former second-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2017 out of Wake Forest has hit .223 in his five years in the big leagues with 18 home runs, 68 RBI and 25 steals in 277 games played.

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo (elbow, late) was scheduled to throw a bullpen session at PNC Park on Monday and meet with team doctors and coaches, according to interim manager Don Kelly. Oviedo made his fourth minor-league rehab start with Double-A Altoona last Friday and allowed an earned run on three hits while walking none and striking out three in 3 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old was able to get up to 53 pitches in his latest outing, which means he probably will need several more rehab starts before the Pirates feel comfortable letting him make his 2025 big-league debut at some point in August. Oviedo could move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Indianapolis for his next turn. The Cuban hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2023, when he went 9-14 with a 4.31 ERA and 1.37 WHIP with 158 K's and 83 walks in 32 starts.

Baltimore Orioles catching prospect Samuel Basallo (oblique) will begin a hitting progression this week with hopes of returning for Triple-A Norfolk this weekend, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports. Basallo is working his way back from a right-oblique injury that has kept him out of action in the minors since July 13, but he has managed to avoid a stint on the injured list so far. The O's are definitely going to play it safe with the No. 9 overall prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline. The 20-year-old Dominican backstop has been slowed by several injuries in 2025, but he's still hitting .264/.383/.591 with a .975 OPS, 19 home runs, 48 RBI and 40 runs scored in 62 games with the Tides. Baltimore has so far resisted the urge to call Basallo up to the big leagues despite a rash of injuries at the catching position this year, but they might not be able to keep him away for much longer.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) did running drills at full speed on Monday at Comerica Park, and his next step will be going on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo, according to the Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold. "Everything is going really well," manager A.J. Hinch said. Carpenter is expected to join Toledo for their series against Triple-A Indianapolis in the next two days. Depending on how the 27-year-old feels in games in the minors, it's possible that he could come off the injured list and rejoin the big-league squad for this weekend's series against the Toronto Blue Jays, which starts on Thursday. Carpenter hasn't played since June 29, though, so it's likely we won't see him back with the Tigers until sometime next week. When he's ready, Carpenter will return to being an everyday player for the first-place Tigers.

Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller (elbow) will either throw a second live batting practice session or make a minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, per MLB.com. Miller threw 25 pitches in his first live BP session on Saturday while using all his pitches. He came away feeling good, which is why he's ready to take the next step later this week as he works his way back from right-elbow inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list on June 7. Because of how long the 26-year-old has been out, he'll likely require at least a couple rehab starts before rejoining the M's starting rotation, which means we probably won't see Miller until August. It's been a disappointing 2025 season for Miller after posting a 2.94 ERA last year. Through 10 starts, he has a 5.73 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 39:23 K:BB in 48 2/3 innings.

Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed closer Tanner Scott (forearm) was pulled from his outing on Monday in the series opener against the Minnesota Twins and will "most likely" land on the injured list, according to manager Dave Roberts. Scott grimaced after releasing a slider and felt a "sting" in his left forearm. He will go for an MRI exam on Tuesday morning, at which point we should have a better idea of how long he might be out. But the Dodgers' already prevalent need for bullpen help just increased with Scott's injury. The 30-year-old, who is in the first year of a four-year, $72 million deal, has struggled to a 4.14 ERA with seven blown saves in 26 tries in his first 46 appearances with L.A. Kirby Yates entered for the final two outs on Monday for the save, but Alex Vesia could also be a candidate for saves with Scott injured. Evan Phillips is out for the season, and Michael Kopech, Brusdar Graterol and Blake Treinen are all on the IL.

The Toronto Blue Jays have interest in trading for Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Mitch Keller, according to Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Keller has also reportedly been the subject of trade discussions with the New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs. The 29-year-old righty is under contract through the 2028 season at an average annual value of $18.5 million. In 119 innings pitched (20 starts) in 2025, Keller has logged a 3.48 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 92 strikeouts. His 18.7% strikeout rate is his lowest since a five-start sample in 2020, but his 0.68 HR/9 and 5.5% walk rate are both the best of his career. A trade to a contender would certainly help Keller's win outlook, as he's recorded just three wins this season despite his solid overall numbers.

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias (ankle) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on July 18 and should be back "pretty soon," according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. Arias was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain on June 30. In 281 plate appearances before getting hurt, Arias slashed .231/.293/.369 with six home runs, 31 RBI, 28 runs scored, and three stolen bases. The 25-year-old hits the ball hard (10.6% barrel rate), but has a major swing-and-miss problem (31.3% strikeout rate). Arias will be battling Brayan Rocchio for playing time at shortstop upon his return. Rocchio is a standout defender, but has hit just .207 with one home run in 158 plate appearances this season.

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (foot) is progressing "a little slower" than the team expected, according to Guardians manager Stephen Vogt. Thomas was placed on the 10-day injured list in early July due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. He recently received a pain-killing injection over the All-Star break. Thomas has had a rough season in 2025, slashing .160/.246/.272 with four home runs and four stolen bases in 142 plate appearances. The 29-year-old has posted the lowest barrel rate (4.8%) and hard-hit rate (30.1%) of his career so far this year. Thomas' speed (32 stolen bases in 2024) is a big part of his value to fantasy managers, so a nagging foot injury is bad news for his outlook the rest of the way.
