Detroit Tigers closer Will Vest (5-2) took his second loss of the season in a 6-1 game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Vest, who hadn't pitched since last Sunday, entered a scoreless game in the eighth inning and wound up delivering his worst performance in over a month. The 30-year-old right-hander yielded two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout to hand the Tigers their 12th loss in 13 games. Detroit's recent slide has led to fewer opportunities over the past couple of weeks for Vest, who has picked up just two saves in three weeks. Even after struggling Saturday, Vest still owns a 2.58 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP, 51:15 K:BB, and 16 saves over 45 1/3 innings.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander Carson Spiers (elbow, shoulder) will undergo season-ending surgery on his UCL, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. It's not yet clear whether Spiers will have Tommy John surgery or an internal-brace procedure. Spiers logged three appearances (two starts) and pitched to a 6.08 ERA with 11:7 K:BB in 13 1/3 innings before landing on the injured list with a shoulder impingement on April 20. The 27-year-old had been working back from that injury in the minors, but he felt soreness in his right biceps during a Triple-A start on July 19. That will go down as the last outing of the season for Spiers.

Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar recorded the 100th save of his career in a 2-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Bednar took down the Diamondbacks in order and picked up a pair of strikeouts, including one against All-Star slugger Eugenio Suarez, in a 13th-pitch ninth inning. The 30-year-old right-hander has converted all 16 of his save opportunities this season and posted a 2.19 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, 51 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 37 innings. Thanks to his stellar production, Bednar is drawing interest from reliever-needy teams across the league as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. It seems likely Bednar will end up on the move. Depending on where Bednar goes, he may end the season in a setup role.

The Atlanta Braves will place right-hander Grant Holmes (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with elbow tightness, manager Brian Snitker announced. Holmes started the Braves' 6-5 loss to the Texas Rangers on Saturday and left after surrendering four earned runs on six hits with 2:2 K:BB in four innings. Despite a 4-9 record, the 29-year-old has recorded decent production this season. Holmes has pitched to a 3.99 ERA with an impressive 123 strikeouts (against 54 walks) and a 1.34 WHIP over 115 frames. He'll now join fellow Braves starters Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach, AJ Smith-Shawver, and Reynaldo Lopez on the IL. It's unclear how the injury-ravaged Braves plan to replace Holmes.

Tampa Bay Rays right-handed reliever Manuel Rodriguez (forearm/elbow) will have season-ending elbow surgery to repair his flexor tendon on Aug. 8, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Dr. Keith Meister will evaluate Rodriguez's UCL during the procedure "to determine if any additional intervention is necessary," per Topkin. It's unclear whether Rodriguez will be ready to return sometime in 2026. The Rays originally placed Rodriguez on the injured list with a forearm strain on June 10. He felt soreness in his elbow while recovering from that injury in the minors, leading the Rays to pull him off his rehab assignment on July 12. He's now out for the foreseeable future, which is a huge blow to the Rays' bullpen. Rodriguez put up a superb 2.08 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP, 25:6 K:BB, and 11 holds in 30 1/3 innings this season.

The New York Yankees have acquired infielder Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals, Jack Curry of YES Network reports. The Nationals will receive right-hander Clayton Beeter and outfielder Browm Martinez in return. Rosario will address the Yankees' need for a versatile infielder who hits from the right side. The well-traveled 29-year-old has typically provided credible offensive production since he debuted with the New York Mets in 2017. Rosario is a career .273/.308/.399 hitter with 68 home runs and 110 stolen bases in 3,871 plate appearances. In 158 trips to the plate with the Nationals this year, Rosario batted .270/.310/.426 with five homers, 18 RBI, 19 runs scored, and a steal.

Toronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk is being evaluated for a concussion, manager John Schneider said after the team's 6-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. Kirk took a foul ball off the mask in the second inning and stayed in until the Blue Jays replaced him with Tyler Heineman in the fourth. The 26-year-old Kirk has been a key piece for a Toronto team that surprisingly boasts the best record in the majors. He earned his second All-Star nod this season and has slashed .304/.361/.413 with seven homers, 47 RBI, 27 runs scored, and a minuscule 9.8% strikeout rate in 346 plate appearances. If he has to miss time, the Jays would plug in Heineman, a 34-year-old journeyman who has been shockingly productive in 2025. Heineman has hit .330/.394/.495 with three homers, 16 RBI, 19 runs, and two stolen bases over 106 trips to the plate.

According to Bobby Nightengale, Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton (side) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Washington Nationals. Buxton was reportedly removed from the contest due to left side soreness. Before exiting, Buxton went 0-for-3 at the plate, so it was a fairly unproductive night for him. The expectation is that the Twins are going to give more information on his status following Saturday's game. Harrison Bader took over in center field and figures to see more time out there if Buxton sits out a few games.

Kansas City Royals first baseman/outfielder Jac Caglianone (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. Ouch, this is tough news after Caglianone was removed from the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians. He grounded into a double play in the second inning and was pulled out with a hamstring issue in the third. He'll now sit out the next few weeks due to a hamstring issue. It's worth noting that the Royals did acquire outfielder Randal Grichuk from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Grichuk figures to help fill the void left by Caglianone in the outfield.
From RotoBaller
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk was traded to the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. In exchange, the D-Backs received right-handed pitcher Andrew Hoffmann. Grichuk actually played for the D-Backs on Saturday, but was pulled after two-bats because he was traded. This is a nice addition for the Royals offense that is currently struggling to bring in runs. Coming into Saturday, Grichuk was slashing .243/.280/.462 with seven home runs and 22 RBI in 69 games. The Royals are going to be without Jac Caglianone (hamstring) who just landed on the injured list. The move to acquire Grichuk seems like a smart one right now. Hoffmann has only pitched in three games for the Royals this season. However, he posted a 2.25 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a 55/10 K/BB ratio across 32 games in Triple-A.
From RotoBaller
Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. (groin) remains out of the starting lineup for the second straight game on Saturday. The 27-year-old is dealing with a groin issue that will force him to miss the second game of this Crosstown Classic. Honestly, it might be best for Robert to rest and avoid any more injuries with his trade value heating up. The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly closely monitoring Robert right now. Robert is having a down year, but was swinging the bat well before the injury. This season, Robert is slashing .206/.293/.343 with 10 home runs, 41 RBI, and 26 steals in 84 games. Clearly not great numbers, but there are not a ton of big-time hitters available at the trade deadline this year. Robert figures to gain more trade traction over the next week.

Houston Astros shortstop Jeremy Pena (rib) was able to take part in a live batting session on Saturday. Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters Pena took seven at-bats and they all went well. Pena continues to work his way back from a ribs issue that has sidelined him since late June. The hope is that Pena is able to begin a rehab assignment soon. If that happens, Pena could be back in the Astros lineup by early August. Fantasy managers will need to stay tuned for more updates.

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen (forearm) has completed his rehab and will come off the 60-day injured list on either Sunday or Monday, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports. It has been a long road back for Treinen, who has been out since April 19 with a sprained right forearm. Before going on the shelf, the 37-year-old pitched to a strong 3.38 ERA with 10 strikeouts, three walks, three holds, and two saves in eight innings. With fellow late-game relievers Tanner Scott (elbow) and Michael Kopech (knee) on the IL, Treinen will be a candidate to rack up saves when he returns. However, regardless of inning, the Dodgers plan to use Treinen in the highest-leverage situations, according to Plunkett.

The Los Angeles Angels have placed outfielder Jorge Soler (back) on the 10-day injury list with inflammation in his lower back, retroactive to July 24. In other moves, the team recalled infielder Scott Kingery and outfielder Gustavo Campero from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace Soler and outfielder Chris Taylor (hand), who went on the 10-day IL with a fractured left hand. This is now the second time this season that lower back inflammation has led to a stint on the IL for Soler. The 33-year-old previously sat out the final two weeks of June with the same issue. Overall, Soler has hit just .215/.293/.387 with 12 homers, 34 RBI, and 31 runs in 315 plate appearances. However, after returning from his first IL stint on July 1, he slashed a highly productive .262/.360/.595 with four homers and eight RBI in 15 games this month. With Soler out again, LaMonte Wade Jr. will start in right field Saturday and bat ninth against Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby.

The Los Angeles Angels announced that they have placed outfielder Chris Taylor on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hand. Jones, who suffered the injury on a diving play in the outfield on Friday, expects to miss around six weeks. This is the second time this season that Taylor has broken his left hand. He just returned this past Monday after sitting out a month and a half thanks to the injury, but now the 34-year-old is already back on the shelf. When healthy, the former All-Star has posted a dismal .194/.247/.319 line with one home run and six RBI in 77 plate appearances between the Angels and Dodgers.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees outfield prospect Spencer Jones is currently not a candidate to replace the injured Aaron Judge (elbow) on the team's roster, Andy Martino of SNY reports. Judge will miss at least the next 10 days with a right flexor strain, which could have cleared a path for Jones. The 24-year-old is dealing with back spasms, though, and that's the main reason why he's not on his way to the majors. At 6-7, 240 pounds, Jones is a hulking slugger who has drawn comparisons to Judge. He has been on a Judge-like tear in the minors this season between Double-A and Triple-A, where he has combined to slash .314/.411/.706 with 29 homers, 57 RBI, 69 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases in 302 plate appearances. Thanks to his otherworldly production this year, the Yankees have deemed Jones borderline untouchable in trades as the July 31 deadline nears, according to Martino.

New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will begin taking reps in the outfield, manager Aaron Boone said Saturday. Boone made the announcement after revealing that outfielder Aaron Judge (elbow) will head to the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain. Assuming Judge returns in the next couple of weeks, he'll only be capable of DH duties at first, which would push Stanton's bat out of the lineup. The Yankees would like to avoid that by getting Stanton as much time as possible in the outfield. It's in question whether the 35-year-old is capable of taking the field at this stage of his career. His most recent outfield work came over 33 games in 2023. Stanton has exclusively served as a DH since then. The 35-year-old missed the first two and a half months of this season with elbow issues, but he has been a major offensive asset since debuting June 16. Stanton has slashed .277/.358/.532 with seven homers, 20 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 106 plate appearances.

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger (quadriceps) is targeting an Aug. 8 return from the 10-day injured list, according to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. Burger has already missed two weeks after going on the IL on July 13 with a strained left quadriceps. When healthy, the 29-year-old has batted a subpar .228/.259/.401 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI, and a career-worst 2.8% walk rate over 286 plate appearances in his first season with the Rangers. The club has used an array of players at first base in Burger's absence. Rowdy Tellez, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran, and Justin Foscue have each started at the position in the past week.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge (elbow) is going on the 10-day injured list with a right flexor strain, manager Aaron Boone told reporters. The good news is that Judge's UCL remains intact, meaning he won't require surgery. The Yankees are hopeful that the superstar won't miss a significant amount of time, but he'll have to go 10 to 14 days without throwing. Even 10 days without the reigning AL MVP is a notable blow to the Yankees, who have sputtered in recent weeks, as well as fantasy managers. Judge has slashed an eye-popping .342/.449/.711 with 37 homers, 85 RBI, 90 runs scored, and six stolen bases in 459 plate appearances. There's no realistic hope of replacing that all-world production, though the Yankees do still have three starting-caliber outfielders in Trent Grisham, Cody Bellinger, and Jasson Dominguez. Judge will initially return as a designated hitter, which should lead to decreased playing time for Giancarlo Stanton and Ben Rice.
From RotoBaller
Texas Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson (hand) will come off the 10-day injured list and return as a full-time DH on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports. Pederson suffered a fractured right hand on May 24 and has missed just over two months. The two-time All-Star joined the Rangers on a two-year, $37 million contract in the offseason, but it hasn't worked out at all so far. Pederson will come back and try to improve on a brutal .131/.269/.238 line with two home runs and 10 RBI over 146 plate appearances.
