Minnesota Twins infielder Edouard Julien and prospect Brooks Lee are expected to compete for starts at second base during spring training. Willi Castro is also expected to be in the mix as well but could find a role at another position. Last season, Julien held an underwhelming .199/.292/.323 line with eight home runs and six stolen bases. He drew walks at an elite 11.0 percent rate but held a hefty 33.9 percent strikeout rate. He was deployed primarily on the strong side of a platoon. Lee was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft out of Cal Poly. Lee made his MLB debut last summer and posted a .221/.265/.320 line with three home runs across 50 contests. At Triple-A, Lee posted a .308/.368/.606 line in 25 games. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor their development during camp. While both have flashed upside at times, they could be tough to trust in standard formats if they end up splitting time.

St. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde is drawing interest on the trade market. According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch, several teams believe the Cardinals are actively trying to find a trade partner for the 31-year-old. Throughout the offseason, the Cardinals have attempted to shed payroll. They decided to let Paul Goldschmidt test the open market and have had several discussions with teams about moving third baseman Nolan Arenado. Fedde will likely be moved sometime this season as he is set to enter free agency after the 2025 campaign. Last season, the right-hander posted a 3.30 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP across 177 1/3 innings. He tallied 154 punchouts and allowed walks at a strong 7.2 percent rate. He is currently penciled to be the No. 2 option in the St. Louis starting rotation behind Sonny Gray.
From RotoBaller
New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (elbow) remains without a timetable. Yankee manager Aaron Boone said on Sunday that there is "nothing imminent" regarding Stanton's return to baseball activities. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Stanton's status, but he is in danger of missing Opening Day. The slugger has not swung a bat in several weeks due to "high pain" in both of his elbows. Seeing that Stanton remains without a definite recovery timetable is not a positive sign. Last season, the 35-year-old held a .233/.298/.475 slash line with 27 home runs. He generated an elite .509 xSLG but held a hefty 31.2 percent strikeout rate. While Stanton remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect the Yankees to move several players to the DH spot, which could open up starting opportunities for first baseman Ben Rice.
From RotoBaller
The X-ray results came back negative on Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger (hand). Barger exited Sunday's spring training contest early after being hit by a pitch. However, seeing that his x-rays returned negative, fantasy managers should not expect the infielder to miss much time. Barger could return to the starting lineup as early as later this week. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut last summer. Across his first 69 contests in the majors, Barger posted a .197/.250/.351 slash line. He tallied 11 doubles with seven long balls. He swiped two bags. He struck out at a hefty 26.7 percent rate and only drew walks at a 6.2 percent rate. When he returns to action, Barger will compete for the starting job at third base alongside Ernie Clement.
From RotoBaller
New York Mets second baseman Nick Madrigal (shoulder) sustained a dislocated shoulder during Sunday's spring training contest. Madrigal received the starting nod at shortstop in this contest but was pulled from the game in the opening frame after charging a ground ball. The team is waiting on the MRI results to determine the severity of the injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during camp, but the 27-year-old could be in danger of missing the start of the campaign. Earlier in the offseason, the Mets signed Madrigal to a one-year contract worth $1.35 million. When healthy, fantasy managers should expect Madrigal to serve as a depth infielder. While sidelined, prospect Luisangel Acuna could see increased opportunities at second base and shortstop.
From RotoBaller
Right-handed pitcher Trevor Gott signed a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners. This contract includes an invitation to spring training. Gott missed the entire 2024 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery. During the 2023 campaign, the right-hander spent time with the Mariners and the New York Mets. Across 58 total innings of relief, Gott posted a 4.19 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP. He tallied 62 punchouts and showed strong command of his pitches as he posted a 7.2 percent walk rate. He also generated an elite 4.5 percent barrel rate. Fantasy managers should monitor his status during spring training, as he could compete for a role in the Seattle bullpen. If he earns a spot on the major league roster, fantasy managers should expect the 32-year-old to operate as a low-leverage reliever.
From RotoBaller
San Diego Padres pitching prospect Sean Reynolds (foot) is in a walking boot. Reynolds sustained a stress reaction in his right foot. He is expected to remain in the boot for at least 10 more days before undergoing further evaluation. The former fourth-round selection made his MLB debut last summer. Across 11 innings, Reynolds held a stellar 0.82 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP. He tallied 21 punchouts. The right-hander also generated a strong .146 xBA and a 22.7 percent hard-hit rate, which were both well above the average marks. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he may not earn a spot on the Opening Day roster if he remains sidelined for a lengthy period during camp. Across 54 innings at Triple-A last summer, Reynolds posted a 6.17 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. If he were to crack the Opening Day roster, he would likely earn a role in the bullpen.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald (back) is nearing his spring debut. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that the 27-year-old is expected to see game action later this week. Fitzgerald has been limited during the early part of camp due to a back injury. However, seeing that he is nearing his spring debut suggests his injury is quite minor. After appearing in just 10 MLB contests during the 2023 campaign, the Louisville product logged 96 contests last summer. Across this stint, Fitzgerald was able to hold his own as he posted a .280/.334/.497 slash line. He tallied 19 doubles, 15 home runs and swiped 17 bags. However, he generated a modest .292 xwOBA, which suggests he may see some regression when he returns to action. Fantasy managers should expect Fitzgerald to see most of his time at second base while seeing occasional starts in the outfield.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Charlie Morton (illness) is set to make his spring debut on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers. Morton has missed the start of camp due to an illness. However, seeing him make a quick recovery is a positive sign and suggests that he should see a normal workload during the remainder of camp. Earlier in the offseason, the Orioles signed Morton to a one-year $15 million contract. Last season in Atlanta, the 41-year-old posted a 4.19 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. He tallied 167 punchouts across 165 1/3 innings of work. He was able to generate ground balls at an above-average 47.2 percent rate. Fantasy managers should expect Morton to open the season in the Orioles starting rotation. Given his modest strikeout upside, he should only be targeted in deeper formats.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Royals right-handed pitcher Jonathan Bowlan is expected to start the season in a relief role. Bowlan has appeared in three MLB contests over the past two seasons and has been deployed as a starter in two of them. Across five 2/3 innings in the majors, Bowlan held a 7.94 ERA with a 2.47 WHIP. Throughout his time in the minor leagues, Bowlan has alternated between both roles. Last summer, the 28-year-old appeared in 35 contests with Triple-A and started 16 of them. Across 104 total frames, Bowlan posted a 4.67 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He tallied 98 punchouts and served up 34 free passes. Given his lack of MLB experience, fantasy managers should expect Bowlan to compete for a low-leverage relief role during camp. If he continues to struggle, he would then open the season as a reliever with Triple-A.
From RotoBaller
Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Addison Barger (hand) was removed early from Sunday's spring training contest due to a right hand contusion. Barger was hit by a pitch from Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet in the opening frame. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the 25-year-old's status next week, as he may be held out of a few games out of precaution. Barger made his MLB debut last season and posted a .197/.250/.351 slash line with 11 doubles and seven home runs across 69 contests. He swiped two bags and held a 14:60 BB:K ratio. However, he did place in the 99th percentile in arm strength, according to Baseball Savant. Fantasy managers should expect Barger to compete for the starting job at the hot corner during camp alongside Ernie Clement.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher Erik Miller (finger) is dealing with finger numbness. However, Miller is expected to be ready to pitch in a few days and will not undergo any tests. Last season, the southpaw made his big league debut and held a 3.88 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP across 67 1/3 innings of work. He tallied an impressive 87 punchouts but served up walks at a high 13.4 percent rate. He also generated a strong 3.14 xERA and a .190 xBA, which were both well above the average marks. The Giants noted earlier in the offseason that they plan on easing Miller's workload during spring training regardless of this recent injury. Fantasy managers should expect Miller to likely be deployed out of the bullpen during the 2025 campaign and could eventually earn a high-leverage role.
From RotoBaller
Houston Astros outfield prospect Pedro Leon (knee) is dealing with left knee discomfort. Lee was expected to start in Sunday's Grapefruit League contest but was instead a late scratch. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor the outfielder's status as he may miss an extended period of camp. Last season, Leon made his MLB debut and tallied just two his across seven games. He has spent the majority of his previous three seasons with Triple-A Sugar Land. He has seen steady improvement at Triple-A as he posted a career-best .299/.372/.514 line with 25 doubles and 24 home runs, which were all career-highs last summer. He also swiped an impressive 29 bags. Leon should compete for a depth role in the outfield on the major league roster when healthy. However, if he happens to miss most of spring training, he may have to open the campaign with Triple-A.
From RotoBaller
San Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (oblique) suffered an oblique strain and is expected to be kept out of the lineup for at least a few days. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as a setback could put his availability for Opening Day in danger. After only appearing in 34 MLB games during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Ramos logged a career-high 121 contests during the 2024 season. Across this stint, Ramos held a .269/.322/.469 slash line. Ramos launched 22 home runs and added 22 doubles. He generated an elite .481 xSLG and a 47.5 percent hard-hit rate. However, he struck out at a high 26.1 percent rate and drew walks at a low 7.1 percent rate. When healthy, Ramos should have an everyday role in left field.
From RotoBaller
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Felix Bautista (elbow) threw live batting practice on Sunday. This was the first time Bautista faced live hitters during his recovery process. Earlier in camp, the right-handed emphasized that he plans to be ready for Opening Day. Bautista underwent Tommy John surgery in October 2023 and missed the entire 2024 campaign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Bautista's status, as he may even be cleared to participate in a spring training game in the coming weeks. During the 2023 season, the 29-year-old tallied 33 saves and held a 1.48 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP across 61 frames. He tallied an impressive 110 punchouts. He placed in the 100th percentile in xERA and xBA. When healthy, Bautista should be expected to be the top closer in Baltimore and should be viewed as a high-end relief pitcher in all formats.
From RotoBaller
Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Prelander Berroa (elbow) was diagnosed with a Grade 1 elbow strain. Berroa exited Saturday's Cactus League contest early after feeling discomfort in his elbow. Given this recent update, fantasy managers should expect Berroa to remain sidelined for at least a few weeks. As a result, he could be in danger of missing Opening Day. The 24-year-old logged a career-high 19 innings in the major leagues last season. He held a 3.32 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP across this stint. He tallied an impressive 26 punchouts with a strong 2.26 xERA, which suggests he could face some positive regression when he returns to the mound. When cleared for action, the right-hander will compete for a high-leverage role in the Chicago bullpen.
From RotoBaller
Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows (biceps) tweaked his biceps during Saturday's spring training contest. Meadows was examined on Sunday but the injury does not appear to be serious. Manager AJ Hinch noted that it was not "anything overly worrisome." Meadows was the team's leadoff hitter during their contest on Saturday afternoon. After a slow start to the 2024 season, the outfielder became an integral piece of their lineup down the stretch. During the second half, the 25-year-old was their everyday leadoff hitter against right-handed pitching and held a strong .296/.340/.500 slash line with six home runs and five stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status over the next week if he faces a setback. If he were to miss time during camp, Wenceel Perez and Matt Vierling would see opportunities in center field.
From RotoBaller
Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Chris Murphy (elbow) has thrown two bullpen sessions during spring training. He only threw 10 pitches in his first session but was able to increase it to 15 during his second session. The 26-year-old has only thrown fastballs so far. Murphy is slowly working his way back from the Tommy John surgery he underwent last April. He was unable to pitch at all during the 2024 campaign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status throughout camp. He is currently targeting to face live batters on April 10. The southpaw made his MLB debut during the 2023 campaign and held a 4.91 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across 47 2/3 innings. He struck out 49 batters and posted a modest 8.0 percent walk rate. When cleared for action, Murphy should compete for a role in the Boston bullpen.
From RotoBaller
Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood (quad) participated in defensive drills on Sunday. He was held out of Saturday's game due to a left quad issue. He continues taking part in batting practice without any issues. This doesn't like a long term issue, but the Nationals are going to continue being cautious with their star outfielder. The expectation is that Wood should be back on the field at some point this week. Fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned about his availability for Opening Day.
From RotoBaller
The Texas Rangers have signed outfielder Kevin Pillar to a minor-league contract on Sunday. The veteran outfielder will receive a minor-league contract with an invite to Major League camp. The 36-year-old will look to catch on as depth heading into the regular season. His offensive stats have taken a hit over the last few seasons, but Pillar could still be a useful bench option. He slashed .229/.291/.377 with eight home runs and 45 RBI across 100 games with the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels. His days of being a fantasy contributor are likely over.
