Joe Ryan Tue May 20 8:00pm ET

Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan will pitch when Monday's suspended game against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians resumes on Wednesday at Target Field, according to The Athletic's Dan Hayes. Right-hander Chris Paddack will then take the ball in the regularly scheduled game on Wednesday, weather permitting. The first game on Wednesday between the Twins and Guardians will resume in the fourth inning with the Twins up 2-1, so Ryan will have an even better shot at picking up a win in this one. Although he won't be able to go quite as deep in this outing as a normal game, fantasy managers should still throw him in their starting lineups against a Guardians team that currently ranks 21st in baseball with a .686 team OPS. Ryan has been great for his fantasy managers in 2025, going 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 63 punchouts in 52 innings over his nine starts.

Andres Gimenez Tue May 20 7:50pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Andres Gimenez (quadriceps) is doing baseball activities and resumed running on Monday, according to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon. Gimenez will likely need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before he comes off the 10-day injured list to rejoin the Blue Jays. A quadriceps strain landed the 26-year-old infielder on the IL back on May 9. Barring a setback when he starts his rehab assignment, Gimenez could be back in the big leagues in around a week or two. The Venezuelan infielder is mostly known for his glove at the keystone, so he has minimal fantasy upside as a middle-infield option in deep-mixed and AL-only fantasy formats. He got off to a rough start in his first year in Toronto before his injury, slashing just .195/.273/.305 with three home runs, 10 RBI and nine steals in 36 games. Gimenez had back-to-back 30-steal campaigns in 2023 and 2024.

    From RotoBaller

Max Scherzer Tue May 20 7:40pm ET

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) threw a 33-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday and everything felt good, according to manager John Schneider. Scherzer will next throw off a mound another time or two before facing live hitters. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer has had multiple setbacks with a troublesome right thumb before he was scratched from a bullpen session last week with back tightness. The three-time Cy Young winner just can't seem to stay healthy towards the end of his illustrious career, but the ultimate competitor is doing everything he can to rejoin Toronto's rotation this year. At best, Scherzer is a couple of weeks away from a potential return to the big leagues, but he'll likely need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. If he can finally avoid setbacks, the aging All-Star could return in early June.

Chris Martin Tue May 20 7:30pm ET

The Texas Rangers announced on Tuesday that they placed right-handed reliever Chris Martin (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 19) with right-shoulder fatigue and recalled right-hander Cole Winn from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. Martin has also dealt with a right-elbow injury recently, but it will be his shoulder that sidelines him for the next couple of weeks. The 38-year-old veteran was forced to exit his last outing early on Saturday. It's a tough break for the Rangers bullpen, as Martin has been a key high-leverage reliever in 2025, sporting a 1.83 ERA (1.88 FIP), a 0.91 WHIP, one save, 23 strikeouts and only three walks in 19 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Until Martin is able to return, the Rangers will be forced to rely on Robert Garcia and Jacob Webb more in setup roles in front of closer Luke Jackson.

Bryce Miller Tue May 20 7:30pm ET

Seattle Mariners right-hander Bryce Miller (elbow) threw a bullpen session before the game in Chicago against the White Sox on Tuesday, according to Seattle Sports' Shannon Drayer. Miller landed on the 15-day injured list last Wednesday with inflammation in his right elbow, but it's a good sign he's already throwing a bullpen session. The 26-year-old received a cortisone shot last Tuesday, and the Mariners are optimistic that he'll be ready to return from the IL when he's first eligible next Tuesday. The 26-year-old's elbow injury could help explain his disappointing 5.22 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in his first eight starts covering 39 2/3 innings this year. With Miller, Logan Gilbert (elbow) and George Kirby (shoulder) all currently sidelined, right-hander Logan Evans is currently in Seattle's rotation. Miller should be stashed in all fantasy leagues while he recovers.

Eugenio Suarez Tue May 20 7:20pm ET

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez will get a day of rest in Game 2 of the series against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. Shortstop prospect Jordan Lawlar will make the start at third and will bat ninth against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It will be Suarez's second day off of the season. Although the 33-year-old Venezuelan continues to strike out at a high clip, he's produced big power numbers so far in 2025 and ranks tied for fifth in baseball in home runs (14), tied for fourth in RBI (38) and tied for 21st in runs scored (30) while hitting just .215 (37-for-172). He has gone 16-for-67 (.239) with four homers and 18 RBI in 18 games so far in May. Lawlar has lots of long-term fantasy upside as Arizona's shortstop of the future, but he's still searching for his first MLB hit in his fourth game with the Snakes.

    From RotoBaller

Teoscar Hernandez Tue May 20 7:10pm ET

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the series against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. Andy Pages is in right field and batting sixth, while Enrique Hernandez is starting in center field and hitting eighth against D-backs right-hander Ryne Nelson. Hernandez made his return from the injured list in Monday's loss to the Snakes and went 0-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, but he'll take a seat as the Dodgers ease him back into the fold. Fantasy managers will want to get the 32-year-old slugger back in their lineups when he returns on Wednesday. Pages has been a major contributor on offense for the Blue so far in 2025, but he's hitless in seven career at-bats versus Nelson. Hernandez continues to sell out for power, hitting just .229 (22-for-96) but with seven home runs in 2025.

    From RotoBaller

Hyeseong Kim Tue May 20 7:10pm ET

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie infielder Hyeseong Kim is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Ryne Nelson, starting at second base and batting ninth. Even though both Teoscar Hernandez and Tommy Edman are back from the injured list, manager Dave Roberts said that Kim is expected to make around 3.5 starts per week between the infield and outfield as a super-utility player. The 26-year-old could also start to see more time at the expense of the struggling Michael Conforto. The 26-year-old South Korean native has handled himself nicely in his first 15 big-league games, going 14-for-35 (.400) with a homer, five RBI, three steals, nine runs, two walks and six strikeouts. While he doesn't have much power, Kim can be useful in deeper fantasy leagues in a utility spot if he continues to see semi-regular playing time in L.A.

    From RotoBaller

Matt Chapman Tue May 20 7:00pm ET

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman will start on the bench on Tuesday as the team continues a series against the visiting Kansas City Royals at Oracle Park. Casey Schmitt is starting at the hot corner and will hit seventh against Royals right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Chapman has really struggled at the plate so far in 2025 with the Gigantes, but he's picked things up a bit in May with a .246 average (16-for-65) with three home runs, three doubles, eight RBI, a steal and 11 runs scored in 17 games played. The 32-year-old five-time Gold Glover does have eight homers, 24 RBI and 25 runs scored, but he's hitting just .216 (37-for-171) through mid-May. Schmitt will be a low-upside DFS sleeper at third on Tuesday with a .200 average (5-for-25) in limited playing time this year. He has never faced Lorenzen in his career.

    From RotoBaller

    J.T. Ginn Tue May 20 6:40pm ET

The Athletics announced on Tuesday that they placed right-hander J.T. Ginn (quadriceps) on the 15-day injured list with a strained right quadriceps and recalled right-hander Anthony Maldonado from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. The A's just activated Ginn from the IL on Monday from a right-elbow inflammation before he allowed four runs in four innings in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The 26-year-old is now back on the IL a day later with a new ailment and will miss at least the next two weeks. The former second-round pick by the New York Mets in 2020 out of Mississippi State has posted a 5.60 ERA (6.38 FIP) and 1.53 WHIP with 22 strikeouts and six walks in 17 2/3 innings over his four starts for the A's this year and hasn't been very sharp. Ginn has no business being rostered in mixed fantasy leagues at this time.

    From RotoBaller

Kristian Campbell Tue May 20 6:30pm ET

Boston Red Sox rookie second baseman Kristian Campbell is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's meeting with the visiting New York Mets at Fenway Park and will start in center field and bat fifth against Mets right-hander Clay Holmes. Campbell has been working out at first base recently in the wake of Triston Casas' season-ending knee injury, but manager Alex Cora said that the team is far away from using the 22-year-old at first in a game. It will not happen on the team's current homestand, and Cora said on a scale from zero to 10, there's around a "2.5" or "3" that Campbell is on his way to appearing at first base. The bigger issue for Campbell's fantasy managers is that he's gone just 4-for-47 (.085) with a homer, three RBI and 15 strikeouts in 11 games so far in May at the plate. He got the last two days off to clear his head, so hopefully Campbell can start putting up better at-bats and get out of his funk.

    From RotoBaller

Miguel Andujar Tue May 20 6:30pm ET

Athletics infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar (ribs) is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels and right-hander Kyle Hendricks, starting at third base and batting sixth for Game 2 of the four-game series. Andujar was scratched from the lineup on Monday due to soreness in his right rib, but he'll be back in action a day later. The 30-year-old veteran Dominican could be a DFS sleeper on Tuesday in the matchup against Kendricks, who he has gone a perfect 3-for-3 against with three RBI in his career. Andujar is also hitting a strong .312 (39-for-125) on the season, albeit with minimal counting stats of three home runs, 19 RBI, 13 runs scored and one stolen base. He rarely strikes out but also rarely walks and has minimal power and speed for fantasy managers.

    From RotoBaller

    Pete Crow-Armstrong Tue May 20 6:20pm ET

Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong is starting in center field and batting in the six spot on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins and left-hander Ryan Weathers at LoanDepot Park. Even though Crow-Armstrong is in the midst of a breakout season for the Cubbies in 2025, he'll drop to the lower portion of their batting order against a southpaw on Tuesday with the return of outfielder Ian Happ (oblique) from the 10-day injured list. The 23-year-old former 19th overall pick in 2020 has been excellent for fantasy managers so far this year with a .282/.317/.569 slash line, .886 OPS, 12 homers, 38 RBI, 14 stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 48 games, but he's also hit just .217 (10-for-46) with three of his 12 homers and 16 strikeouts in 48 plate appearances against lefties. PCA is hitless in two career at-bats against Weathers, making him more of a fade in DFS lineups on Tuesday.

    From RotoBaller

Walker Buehler Tue May 20 6:20pm ET

The Boston Red Sox announced on Tuesday that they reinstated right-hander Walker Buehler (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned right-hander Nick Burdi to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Buehler will return to the mound on Tuesday at Fenway Park to face the visiting New York Mets, an offense that ranks ninth in baseball with a .741 OPS. The 30-year-old veteran skipped a minor-league rehab assignment, so this will be his first start since April 26. He's been pretty solid for the BoSox in his first six starts of 2025, going 4-1 with a 4.28 ERA (4.29 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with 29 strikeouts and nine walks in 33 2/3 innings. However, given the fact that he skipped a rehab assignment and that he's going against one of the better lineups in baseball, fantasy managers may want to keep him benched for his first start off the IL.

    From RotoBaller

Connor Thomas Tue May 20 6:10pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Connor Thomas (elbow) was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday with left-elbow arthritis, but as of early May, he was on a schedule that led to a minor-league rehab assignment starting on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. Thomas received an injection in his left elbow in late April, and although he's about to start a rehab assignment, the 26-year-old southpaw isn't particularly close to a return. He made his major-league debut with the Brew Crew this year before landing on the shelf and allowed 12 earned runs on 12 hits (three homers) while walking two and striking out five in 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen. If Thomas can avoid a setback on his rehab assignment, he could be back in Milwaukee's bullpen in June, but he will remain off the fantasy radar everywhere.

    From RotoBaller

Blake Perkins Tue May 20 6:10pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Blake Perkins (shin) was cleared to resume baseball activities on April 22, but his progress from a right-shin fracture has been slower than expected, according to MLB.com. Perkins has been unable to run the bases on back-to-back days due to lingering soreness in his shin. He's currently on the 10-day injured list and was originally expected to return in May, but the 28-year-old now sounds like he may not be able to return until sometime in June. He has been on the shelf all season so far due to a shin fracture that he suffered in spring training, and he's not eligible to return from the IL until May 26 at the earliest. When Perkins does finally complete a minor-league rehab assignment, he could be sent back to the minors as outfield depth. If he sticks with Milwaukee, he'll be a part-time player, at best.

    From RotoBaller

Aaron Ashby Tue May 20 5:00pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby (oblique) is currently on a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville and last pitched on Saturday. When Ashby is cleared to return from the 15-day injured list, he'll be ticketed for a long-relief role in the big-league bullpen, according to MLB.com. The 26-year-old southpaw has shown enticing strikeout upside, but injuries continue to set him back, so he'll be relegated to a bullpen role when he makes his 2025 debut. He was originally placed on the IL back on March 27 with a strained right oblique that he suffered in spring training in mid-March. In his four rehab outings (one start), Ashby has surrendered four earned runs on six hits while walking six and striking out five in 6 1/3 frames. He's expected to need a few more rehab appearances before potentially returning to the majors in late May or early June.

    From RotoBaller

Aaron Civale Tue May 20 4:40pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Aaron Civale (hamstring) made scoreless minor-league rehab starts for Triple-A Nashville on May 8 and 14 and is scheduled to make his final appearance with Nashville on Tuesday before rejoining Milwaukee's starting rotation, according to MLB.com. Civale threw five scoreless innings on 60 pitches in his most recent rehab outing last Wednesday for Nashville. The 29-year-old has been on the 15-day injured list since March 31 due to a strained left hamstring, but he's on the verge of returning to the major leagues. In his lone start in 2025 on March 30 against the New York Yankees, Civale was touched up for five earned runs on four hits (three homers) while walking one and striking out two in three innings. There's not a ton of strikeout upside here, but Civale can be an innings-eater for rotation depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues.

    From RotoBaller

Jose Quintana Tue May 20 4:40pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (shoulder) had a second opinion recently that confirmed the original diagnosis of a left-shoulder impingement that landed him on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to May 11) on May 14. Quintana is scheduled for bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Friday of this week, according to MLB.com. If those sessions go well, the 36-year-old southpaw could come off the IL as soon as he's eligible next Monday without going on a minor-league rehab assignment. He has posted a strong 4-1 record and 2.65 ERA in his first six starts over 34 innings in 2025 with the Brew Crew, but his 4.57 FIP and weak 6.4 K/9 mark make him vulnerable to regression the rest of the way when he returns from his shoulder injury. Given all the other injuries to Milwaukee's starters, Quintana should have a rotation spot waiting for him next week.

    From RotoBaller

Tyler Black Tue May 20 4:30pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Tyler Black (hand) had surgery in late March during spring training for a right-hamate fracture in his hand and started a minor-league rehab assignment at the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 15, according to MLB.com. Black is expected to move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Nashville next week. The 24-year-old was initially estimated to miss six to eight weeks, so it's possible he'll be able to return to action in June, barring a setback. The team's No. 6-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, played in his first 18 major-league games last year and struggled with a .204 average (10-for-49) with no homers, two RBI, 17 strikeouts and seven walks in 57 plate appearances. Many players experience a drop in power upon their return from hamate surgery, so Black will most likely return to the minors when his rehab assignment is up next month.
