Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes posted his third straight quality start in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rockies. The veteran tossed six shutout innings, yielding two hits and three walks while striking out a season high 10 batters on the way to earning his third win of the season. The righty is now 3-1 and the performance lowered his ERA to 2.56 with a 1.25 WHIP and an 11.1 K-BB%. The 6-foot-3 hurler's strikeout rate has been dwindling since 2020, and his 11.6 percent walk rate this year is easily a career worst, but the 4x All-Star has been able to strand runners (80.8 percent LOB%) and limit damage. Burnes has been better at home (1.48 ERA) than on the road (3.80 ERA), and his next turn through the rotation will bring a tough matchup with the Dodgers in Los Angeles, so he may not be a DFS option for that contest on Wednesday.

San Francisco Giants first baseman/designated hitter Wilmer Flores had a career night on Friday, going 3-for-5 with three home runs and eight RBI in a 9-1 win over the Athletics. It was the third consecutive game with multiple hits, and he's now up to 10 home runs for the season. What's a bit more surprising and a big reason why the Giants are off to such a good start is that the right-handed hitter is up to 41 RBI on the year, which puts him tied with Aaron Judge for the most in baseball. The 33-year-old owns a .266/.318/.468 slash line with a .344 wOBA and 120 wRC+ so far, but he'll take on the A's and Luis Severino on Saturday, whom he is 0-for-7 off of in his career.

Seattle Mariners infield prospect Cole Young went 3-for-7 with a double, a triple, and a home run during Friday's contest against Triple-A Albuquerque. Young tallied four RBI and two runs. Over his last 12 contests, Young has been swinging a hot bat, posting a .426/.509/.872 slash line with five doubles, two triples, four home runs, with a 5:6 K:BB. Last season, the No. 3-ranked prospect in the Seattle system spent his entire campaign with Double-A. Across 124 games, Young posted a strong .271/.369/.390 slash line with 25 doubles, nine home runs, and 23 stolen bases. Los Angeles Dodgers designatedhitter Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Angels. The reigning NL MVP has now homered in three straight and has five multi-hit efforts in his last seven games. That gives him 16 home runs on the season and pushes the 4x All-Star'sseason-long slash line to .316/.416/.690 with a .459 wOBA and 197 wRC+, which also puts him at the top of the NL MVP race again. The left-handed slugger ranks behind only Aaron Judge in fantasy scoring so far this season, and although the Dodgers face a lefty on Saturday, Ohtani could be used in DFS as he surprisingly has a better batting average againstLHP this season than he does against RHP (.352 vs. .299). This particular lefty, Tyler Anderson, Ohtani is 4-for-7 off of in his career, with three triples and a home run.

Chicago Cubs infield prospect Matt Shaw went 3-for-5 with two home runs during their contest against Triple-A St. Paul on Friday evening. This was Shaw's second time hitting at least two home runs over his last three contests. Over his last eight contests, the former 13th overall pick has been swinging a hot bat, posting a strong .400/.486/.1.033 slash line with two doubles, one triple, and five home runs. During this stretch, Shaw has swiped three bags and held a 3:4 K:BB. The Maryland product was able to crack the Opening Day roster but was eventually optioned to Triple-A following his slow start. However, fantasy managers should expect Shaw to be in the mix to return to Chicago quite early in the season, given his strong play. Shaw carries five-category upside and is worth stashing in all standard formats.

Philadelphia Phillies infield prospect Aidan Miller went 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and a stolen base during Friday's contest against Double-A New Hampshire. This performance extended Miller's hitting streak to four games. During this stretch, Miller has posted two multi-hit games and swiped four bags. Through 31 games at Double-A this season, Miller has held a modest .229/.331/.364 slash line with four doubles, four long balls, and 12 stolen bases. However, given his recent surge at the plate, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the system could be turning the corner at Double-A Reading. Colorado Rockies catching prospect Cole Carrigg went 1-for-4 with a grand slam during their contest against Double-A Binghamton on Friday. Through the season's opening month, Carrigg has tallied 30 RBI, the second-most in the Eastern League, only behind Jorge Burgos of the Cleveland Guardians. Through 33 contests, the backstop has posted a .252/355/.521 slash line with four doubles, two triples, eight home runs, and a 40:14 K:BB. The 23-year-old has also made an impact on the basepaths, swiping nine bags. Last season, the No. 3-ranked spent the most of his campaign at High-A Spokane where he held a .280/.358/.475 slash line with 16 doubles, 16 long balls, and 51 stolen bases. Given his steady production at Double-A, Carrigg should be in the mix to reach Triple-A in the second half of the campaign.

The top prospect in San Francisco has been enjoying an impressive power surge over the past. In his last six games, Eldridge has gone deep four times, added two doubles, and tallied nine RBI. Through 20 games with Double-A Richmond, Eldridge has been very impressive at the plate, holding a .306/.383/.583 slash line with five doubles and five long balls. Last summer, the former 16th overall pick from the 2023 MLB Draft quickly progressed through the system, spending most of his time with High-A. If Eldridge continues to perform well, he should be in the mix to reach Triple-A in the coming weeks.

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera went 3-for-4 with four RBI in Friday's 10-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. He has picked up right where he left off after missing some time due to a bone bruise in his left knee earlier in the year. The 24-year-old has gone 10-for-22 in his six games back and boasts an absurd slash line of .419/.480/.907 on the season. Herrera has a strong quality of contact metrics with a strikeout rate below 20%. Houston Astros first baseman Christian Walker went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Friday's 6-3 win over the Texas Rangers. It's been a miserable start to the season for Walker so far, as this effort brings his season slash line to just .210/.283/.358. His home run on Friday was his fifth of the season, but his first since April 28th. The 34-year-old is striking out at his highest rate since 2018 with his worst Barrel% since 2021. It is still relatively early in the season, so there should still be some optimism for a turnaround, but there should also be some level of concern for fantasy managers.

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Chris Sale (2-3) allowed one run on five hits and two walks over seven innings in Friday's 4-2 win against the Boston Red Sox. He struck out eight to earn his second win of the season. Sale outlasted fellow left-handed ace Garrett Crochet in a classic pitcher's duel. The 36-year-old generated 15 swings-and-misses in this one as he is putting together a strong month of May after a rocky start to the season. After posting a 4.84 ERA in March and April, Sale looks to return to his usual self with a 1.40 ERA and 26:6 K:BB in May. Sale will look to keep it rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road on Thursday against the Washington Nationals.

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Andre Pallante (4-2) allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks while striking out four across seven innings in Friday's 10-3 win over the Kansas City Royals. He picked up his fourth win of the season. The 26-year-old produced 13 out of his outs through ground balls, which has been the formula for Pallante. His 3.38 groundout-to-airout ratio leads all starting pitchers by a wide margin. Pallante sports a 4.11 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts across 50 1/3 innings this season. He won't rack up many strikeouts, but he's a solid streaming option and a viable play in deeper leagues. Pallante will look to build on Friday's performance in his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Tigers.

Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Jose Quintana (biceps, shoulder) had additional tests on Thursday, and the results were promising, according to manager Pat Murphy. The Brewers are optimistic that it will be a minimum injured-list stint for Quintana, who is eligible to return on May 26. Quintana was put on the IL on Wednesday with a left-shoulder impingement, but it looks like it won't be long before he'll be back in the big leagues. If he does return when eligible, he'll be lined up for a matchup against the Boston Red Sox. The Colombian hurler has an ERA under 3.00 through his first six starts (34 innings) for the Brew Crew this year, but his 4.56 FIP indicates the soft-tossing lefty has been a bit fortunate to this point. Quintana also has only 24 strikeouts in his 34 innings pitched, and his lack of strikeout upside makes him a volatile low-upside fantasy streamer when he's healthy.

The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent right-hander Kenta Maeda to a minor-league deal on Thursday, and he's expected to make a start as soon as next week at Triple-A Iowa with Justin Steele (elbow), Shota Imanaga (hamstring) and Javier Assad (oblique) all on the injured list. Maeda, 37, joins the Cubs after being released by the Detroit Tigers last week after giving up eight runs (seven earned) with eight strikeouts and six walks in eight relief innings in a low-leverage relief role. However, 172 of his 226 career games have been as a starter. Maeda will give Chicago another starting option but could also be sent back to the bullpen as the team's rotation gets healthier. Fantasy managers in the vast majority of leagues can continue to ignore the Japanese pitcher. In 29 outings (17 starts) for Detroit last year, Maeda had a 6.09 ERA and 1.38 WHIP with 96 K's and 31 walks in 112 1/3 innings.

The New York Yankees announced on Friday that they designated left-hander Tyler Matzek for assignment and reinstated right-hander Jonathan Loaisiga (elbow) from the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. The team also reinstated right-hander Clayton Beeter (shoulder) from the 15-day IL and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Matzek didn't look great out of the Yankees' bullpen after returning from an oblique injury, allowing three earned runs on 11 hit while walking five and striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings. Injuries have really set the 34-year-old veteran southpaw back in recent seasons, but he should be able to latch on with another team in need of some left-handed relief arms. Loaisiga, 30, is returning from an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow, but he could quickly fall into a high-leverage relief role for the Yanks. Don't forget about him in holds leagues.
